Album Notes: Issued in 2008, this 10-track collection presents singles and compilation tracks recorded the previous year by the Brooklyn indie-pop duo High Places. The group's spare, chiming arrangements leave plenty of room for Mary Pearson's removed, yet soothing, vocals, as best evinced on the dreamy "Head Spins" and the shimmering "Shared Islands."
Album Reviews: The Wire (p.50) - "High Places manage to sound incredibly simple and subtly sophisticated. In the best way, Barber and Pearson distill their knowledge and experimentation into something which sounds like the raw essence of a musical personality."
Advantages: Blinding 4th album with an uneasy lyrical twist Disadvantages: Topping it next time round.

Advantages: 80s influenced and anthemic, girls are doing what they want, great for a sing a long Disadvantages: few weak links, wouldn't have minded maintaining the escapism in regards to feelings, etc.
...you" - and the track becomes quite the audience pleaser - easy to chant certain parts, memorable and catchy chorus, and near-climatic bridge - one that wouldn't be out of place in an arena. This track definitely shows the album could be sticking to it's 80s hair metal theme, and was definitely something I was singing when getting ready for a night out.
"There's no tellin' where I'm gonna show up
nobody knows where the night will end
There's no tellin' when I'm gonna wake up
but when I do I'll do it all again, yeah"
03. WASTED (03:29) - summary: Love... lust... addiction... same thing?
Up-tempo guitar driven track... not much distortion but the 80s influence is still very much present in the almost breathless vocals confessing that we probably shouldn't be doing what we are, but can't help it. The instruments are a constant...
