return--it's a guileless, glowing masterpiece. Since the breathtaking purity of her debut, Living with Ghosts, Griffin has proven she can luxuriate in glamorous pop, rock like a biker, hold her own on stage with the Dixie Chicks and write hit songs and singer-songwriter classics. What she hadn't done is craft an album as wholly exquisite and emotional as her talent. With the spare, acoustic 1000 Kisses, she has done just that. In the basement of longtime guitarist Doug Lancio's Nashville home, Griffin takes a suite of intensely personal songs (and three covers, including a tingling version of Bruce Springsteen's "Stolen Car") into the close confidence of her airy but twang-shaded voice, and draws accordion, cello, mandolin, brushed drums and even Emmylou Harris into a candid and rare musical space. --Roy Kasten
...Patty has progressed too much since her last album to let this slip by because it's not as familiar as the last album. If you give it a chance you will re-discover her and feel the same way you felt when you first discovered her. If you are just discovering Patty with the Flaming Red CD, then you may want to have a listen to Living with Ghosts. You'll see exactly what I mean. Country fans may also want to check out the new Martina McBride and Dixie Chicks CDs who do incredible folk-country covers of "Goodbye" and "Let Him Fly" respectively....

Advantages: Pleasant enough county rock Disadvantages: Needed a “big one”
...with another slow country ballad. This one was penned by PattyGriffin, another up-and-coming country singer songwriter from the 1990s who appeared with the Dixie Chicks on their “Fly” tour. Perhaps too slow and too long!
The Dixie Chicks are clearly in charge of their own destiny now – in charge of song choice, arrangements, production. This album is certainly not as commercial in sound as their previous release and does not have that immediate appeal. It will obvious delight their huge following of loyal fans – many or most will feel at “Home” back in their blue grass and country roots. However I could not get over the feeling that the next track had to be another upbeat song like “Goodbye Earl” or a rocker like “Sin Wagon”. The irony is that, while not totally absent, this brand of country has a lot less humour in it than the last.
