York--return with all the charm and good humour of a smooth talking rattlesnake. Seductively sensual tunes and a slow hip-hop groove melt under Huey's whispering voice on tracks like "Love Unlimited", which pays homage to the love machine that is Barry White. Still not taking themselves too seriously, the album is full of wry observation and good-natured humour. On the lively "Big Night Out"-- Queen's epic "Bohemian Rhapsody" updated for the 90's--a latin jazz rhythm melds with gospel accompaniment before breaking into hip-hop merriment as the infamously cheeky chorus mocks their supermodel conquests. There is still room for the hard rocking, hard living tales of the street and "Southside", with it's dark metal riffing, reminds us once again exactly what it means to be a Fun Lovin' Criminal. --David Trueman
Advantages: Some great songs Disadvantages: A little to laid back
100% Columbian is the second album from America’s smoothest rockers, Fun Lovin’ Criminals. FLC music consists of a mix of rock, blues, rap and lounge. You’ll have to trust me on this one, but that combination sounds much better than you’d expect. The Fun Lovin’ Criminals are one of the most original sounding bands putting out records today. The only other artist who sounds remotely like them are the Jon Spencer Blues ... ...lounge mix was fairly equal, 100% Columbian has the rock factor turned right down with the blues and lounge cranked up. The result is a much more laid back album that has more groove than attitude.
The first track on the album, Up On the Hill, is a good example of the change in direction. A laid back song full of sleazy sax and laid back rapping from singer Huey. Following straight on is Love Unlimited, if you have even the slightest interest in ...

Advantages: good Sound, good music Disadvantages: none
...write about my new CD, 100% Columbian from the "FUN LOVIN CRIMINALS". This isn’t the newest CD(1998), but I’ve heard one Song from the CD(Love Unlimited) and like it so much, that I’ve just got to buy the whole Album.
Generally\Style

The "Fun Lovin Criminals" are 3 Guys from USA who started make music in 1992. The style of them is very difficult to explain. It seems like a Mix of Jazz, Hip-Hop & Rock. The most ... ...lie down and just relax.
Cover\Design
°°°°°°°°°°°°
The Cover is very simply structured, the front is black a shows the 3 band members. The back shows a black\white picture of a city. I like it, it isn’t exaggerated decorated, just simple and beauty.

Fun Lovin' Criminals, 100% Columbian
The American trio are not liked nearly as much in the states as they are here in good old blighty, and I have no Idea why. This album is sheer quality from start to finish. Sublime lyrics, great rock riffs and some rocking drum beats to get your granny dancing in the moonlight. This is a wonderful album and with Christmas just around the corner it is time to pop down to your local HMV and slap this down on the ...

Schmoove Review of100% Colombian - Fun Lovin' Criminalsby
yhwman
Advantages: Laid back, almost easy listening at times! Disadvantages: Not quite as good as their first album
This is FLC’s second album and was their last with original drummer Steve. The album is much more laid back than their first offering, Come Find Yourself. More lounge than rock but the quality is still good, and with Up On the Hill, Love Unlimited, Back on the Block and more why wouldn’t it be? Even BB King makes an appearance on the album on the last track, Mini Bar Blues. I find I listen to this less than I listen to Come Find Yourself, as it’s ...

Refined urbanity Review of100% Colombian - Fun Lovin' Criminalsby
Alternum
Advantages: The smoothest album you'll ever hear Disadvantages: None!
This can be summed up with a few well-chosen words: smooth, suave, sophisticated, polished, the album is all of these and much more. Singer Huey's gravelly voice complements the laid-back nature of the tracks perfectly, and the musicianship is immaculate. The singles chosen from this album perhaps didn't really do justice to it, in terms of giving the wrong impression: certainly 'Korean Bodega' is one of the most mainstream-sounding tracks on it, ... ...the context of the album the track works well but as a single it fails to give the real sense of the album: mean New York streets, shady deals, that sort of thing - which is what this album is all about. If you like Come Find Yourself then you'll love this, a natural progression from that album's more raw sounds. Here's to the next release! ...

Album Notes: With their sophomore release, 100% COLOMBIAN, Fun Lovin' Criminals leave behind the Tarantino-esque sounds of their debut release for a more harmonious, soulful, Superfly-vibe that sounds like a '70s movie soundtrack. Always groovy, the album shines with funky, yet mellow musical textures, while continuing to have the humorous feel that defines the Fun Lovin' Criminals. Check out the fun-filled "Big Night Out," the guitar riffs of "Korean Bodega" and the ode to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, "Southside."
Album Reviews: Rolling Stone (2/4/99, p.59-60) - "...Subtle it's not, but the Criminals' obviousness is part of their sleazy charm..."
