Review of Greatest Hits Of The 80's - Various Artists by bobhaskett

Advantages: An inexpensive compilation featuring classic tracks.
Disadvantages: You may already have some of the many tracks.

...As I had already purchased the 60's & 70's version of this compilation and found it not only good to use to set questions for music quizzes but also good to listen to, I decided to buy this set when I saw it in the shops. At a price of £19.95 but this time for only 8 CDs with less tracks it does not represent as good value if you simply compare the price/number of tracks ratio. However the overall quality and choice of songs makes it at least equal in value to its forerunner. Again many classic tracks (all original recordings) are featured and amongst the artistes are Kim Wilde, Culture Club, Blondie, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran,Eddie Grant, Kate Bush and Dr. Hook to name but a few.... Review of Cool Sound Of The 70's, The - Various Artists by lisa27

Advantages: 38 good tracks - ideal for parties
Disadvantages: none

...The cool sound of the 70's is a recently released double album containing 38 tracks from the 70's era. A great album which includes:- Barry White - you're the first, my last, my everything Fern Kinney - together we are beautiful (physio sport ad on tv) Boney M - Rivers of babylon Tammy Wynette - stand by your man Brotherhood of man - save all your kisses for me Dawn feat. Tony Orlando - tie a yellow ribbon round the ole oak tree .....to name but a few cheesy numbers! This album will have you dancing in no time at all and no doubt make regular appearances at christmas parties and other such gatherings! If you like this sort of music, then it's definitely one for your collection.... Read review

Sounds of the 70s - I'm Havin' Hoops
Review of Life On Mars [Digipak] - Various Artists by danielse

Advantages: Great memories of an ace series
Disadvantages: Some of it is over-familiar

.... Overall this soundtrack collection is a bit hit or miss. There are some obvious hits that appear on most 70s albums, like ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Blockbuster’ and ‘Whiskey in the Jar’. These are forgivable because of the context they appeared in during the show, but make for a dull listen without that memory. Then there are some less obvious choices by well-known bands such as ELO’s ‘10538 Overture’ or Roxy Music’s ‘Street Life’. Finally there are a few tracks that I wasn’t familiar with that are now linked forever in my mind with the show – ‘I Had A Dream’ by Audience and ‘Snow Flower’ by Ravi’s nephew Ananda Shankar. The only track that I remembered explicitly from the show that doesn’t appear here was a song called ‘Lay Down’ by The Strawbs. It took me a while but I found it elsewhere and added it to my collection – a minor irritation... Read review
