1990's39/SmoothLP) was a strong indicator of things to come for Green Day. Recorded on shoestring budgets, these recordings out-rocked most of the wannabe punk records that flooded record stores at the time. From the first strains of the opener, "At the Library", Green Day are off on a fast, fun ride. Some of the band's best tracks are from these early sessions--"Don't Leave Me", "Dry Ice", "16", "Rest", and "Paper Lanterns", to name only a few. It's a hook-filled record with three-chord wonders at every turn, anchored by Armstrong's snotty-boy vocals. He captures youthful yearning, variously spitting lyrics like "I feel forgotten / Feel like rotting" and then musing out loud, "What is it about you that I adore?" Simply some of the catchiest punk rock ever made.--Lorry Fleming
Advantages: some great tunes, look into the past of a great band. Disadvantages: sound quality, a few fillers.
...GREENDAY - 1039/SMOOTHEDOUTSLAPPYHOURS
-------------------------------------------
GreenDay have been one of my favourite bands for quite some time now, since I first heard 'Basket Case' and 'Longview', from 1994's 'Dookie' album.
These singles really took GreenDay to the top of the charts and into multi platinum sales, with Dookie being one of the highest selling albums in years.
The band has released a total of 8 albums, two of these are best of collections.
The band is probably most famous for its singles such as 'Basket Case', 'Time of your life' and 'Minority'.
What a lot of people don't realize is that the band had been going for quite some years before the mainstream smash albums.
In fact the band formed in the mid 80's, when teenage school friends Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt decided to form a band...

..., 1039SmoothedOutSlappyHours isn't an album as such, it's an album with two EP's attached. The band's full length debut was 39 Smooth, and also lobbed on are the 1000 Hours and Slappy EPs, not that you would notice if you hadn't been told.
I recall getting this album for Christmas one year, after hunting it down stressfully myself for my mum to buy off me to keep for Dec 25, which was at the time only a week or so away. It cost around £15, which is the second highest sum I ever payed for a GreenDay album, with only live album Foot in Mouth costing more.
At the time, GreenDay consisted of guitarist/singer Billie Joe Armstrong, bass player Mike Dirnt and drummer John Kiftmeyer. Kiftmeyer wouldn't appear on another GreenDay record, with 'Tre Cool' replacing him from the next album onwards. Exactly why he left isn't something I...

...This is GreenDays earliest collection of recordings. I particularly love this offering because it showcases the early works of greenday this was release in 1991 and then re-released. This album has 19 songs to offer my favorite song of this album is disappearing boy this album is a treasure to all GreenDay fans and all fans of the early punk pop era.
I thoroughly enjoy this album and the nostalgia that comes with this. However this album may not be GreenDays finest but it has that undeniable charm that cannot be taken away.
The woman on the front cover of this album was Billie Joe's girlfriend and now wife and mother to his kids.
I definitely recommend this album the music will definitely put a smile on your face....
