With such skill, you always feel that TOOL have almost unlimited possibilities and to be honest in 10,000 Days they have managed to create one of the most remarkable, genre defying albums I've ever come across, even more so than their previous album, which is quite an amazing piece of work.

The album opens with a track, Vicarious, that could easily have come from Lateralus. It epitomises TOOL's musical style; it highlights their strengths. It is an exemplar, almost a summation of much of their earlier work into one near-perfect ... ...album, Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days, are perhaps sheer genius, and the first tracks that really show how far they've moved on from the usual musical vernacular. The two songs are a pair and you can not considerable one without considering the other. Although, admittedly, this is very true of the whole album. It's noticeable that TOOL do not sell through iTunes, this is because they quite literally make albums. 10,000 Days is not an album made ...

Advantages: It's Tool Disadvantages: Viginti Tres....why?!
5 years down the line, and here we are again, another Tool opus. Well known for their instrumental dexterity and complete disregard for comprehensible song length, Tool were carrying a huge amount of anticipation and hype on their shoulders with '10,000 Days'. Its unsurprising then, that the bands fourth studio outing is a dissapointment upon first listen - an experience which simply seems to chew you up and spit you out with absolutely no regard ... ...riff' you were anticipating. '10,000 Days' doesn't want you to like it, to taste its fruits, to wallow in it's vast ocean of delights. It teases you with glimpses of cohesion, easing you into a comfortable state, only to knock you sideways into disorientation.
Many a Tool fan will know, however, that 'Lateralus' was much the same way (The first time I heard 'The Grudge' I thought there was something wrong with my stereo). You see, Tool unravel their ...

Advantages: Flows beautifully Disadvantages: Doesn't live up to the last album
After a tedious 5 years waiting Tool have finally released '10,000 days' their final album as lead singer Maynard has decided to concentrate on his more mainstream band, A Perfect Circle. There were many rumours surrounding the release of '10,000 days'. Firstly the release date was set back several months, then a rumour that there would be no final album then finally, the album is actually a decoy and a second is to be released. However this review ... ...£9.99 barely a week ago and played non-stop since. As a huge Tool fan (one month before I see them live….) I was literally biting my fingers to the bone in anticipation for the new album however perhaps it was this hype that was the reason behind my disappointment. Not that the album is bad, far from it, the album as a whole is a beautiful piece of work, yet as a follow up to 'Lateralus' (2001) the album fails. Track one is listed as the new single ...

Advantages: Unique packaging, fabulous lyrics, and a few really good songs Disadvantages: Erratic beats and wailing notes in certain songs Could drive me into homicidal rage under the right volume or with any serious radio attention
...song well. 10,000 Days (Wings pt 2) :
Funeral thoughts are rife here, in all their poignant angles and sharp edges... "Listen to the tales as we all rationalize Our way into the arms of the savior, Feigning all the trials and the tribulations; None of us have actually been there. Not like you. Ignorant fibbers in the congregation Gather around spewing sympathy, Spare me. None of them can even hold a candle up to you. Blinded by choices, hypocrites ... ...Who could deny you were the one who illuminated You'll have a piece of the divine. And this little light of mine, the gift you passed on to me; I'll let it shine to guide you safely on your way, Your way home ..." Hmmm, Funeral Metal? By this point in the album, the perfection I find in Tool's lyrics has convinced me that I will be listening to more of their music. There is a nice droning edge in this song and the inclusion of rain and thunder really ...

Advantages: The album will constantly return to your CD player Disadvantages: The case doesn't fit in a CD rack too well!
I admit, on first hearing this album, i was unsure as to whether it would hold it's own against the other Tool albums. On first hearing, i wasn't convinced.... But, Tool being Tool, listening to their album more than once has convinced me it's a masterpiece!
Some other reviews complain about it being a let down, i really cant agree. I have been a huge Tool fan for many years and everyone that i have recommended this album too have given me back ... ...their other albums (Undertow, Opiate, Aenima, Lateralus... etc) But then again.... are those albums the same? No. This is Tool we're talking about here, each album has brought about a new sound and style that although different, it is still Tool!
Maynard has almost perfected his voice throughout this album.. Although not as some may think. He has managed to turn his voice into an instrument; from the almost endless screams keeping always at a perfect ...

...It's going to be heavier. It's going to sound just like Meshuggah. They're dabbling in numerology. Danny Carey's taken his drumming to a new level entirely. It's going to be like nothing you've ever heard before from Tool.
So much talk. So many questions. So perhaps it's inevitable that 10,000Days showcases a band in stasis. This is still the exact same band who made Lateralus, and to an extent, Aenima. Tool haven't changed at all in the four years between this and its predecessor. Disappointing? Not really. Who bought into all the talk, anyway? Surely we've all learnt by now that the majority of the talk surrounding Tool is guff. If we hadn't, then all the cries that the leak was a fake surely proved it. Seemingly, some Tool fans will do anything to prove that they know the band better than every other Tool fan does...

......Introduction...
Following on from my review of Tool's 10,000days I have decided to review something a little different and it's fair to say there won't be too many people who will like both Tool and Usher as a search on facebook for people who like both artists comes up a blank. Anyway Usher's album My Way was his second album and was released in 1997 it was the album that made him into a star selling over 8 million copies worldwide before he hit the superstar heights with 8701 and Confessions a few years later.

1.) You make me wanna
This was the lead single from the album and is an infectious tale of wanting to leave someone for the person who set you up with your current partner. A tough subject done well with a great beat. I remember dancing to this at school discos.
2.) Just Like Me

...of the song transgresses through lots of proggy sections, building to an amazing outro section.
The next track Wings for Marie is the first part of the prog epic 10,000Days. These two songs combined make up one of the highlights of the album, it is quite fantastic. The whole thing builds and builds and builds, and then launches into one of the most memorable Tool sections ever.
The Pot sounds like it could be another possible candidate for being a single. However dont let that deter you it is still a masterpiece in its own right. It has an unbelievably catchy chorus and and a brilliant bass line.
The next main song Rosetta stoned is another progressive masterpiece, worthy of recognition. It contains one of my favourite Tool moments.
The whole album doesn't let up. It is awe inspiring, this album will take weeks, maybe months even years...
