Hate About Youis a teen comedy about two sisters on opposite ends of the social spectrum: one is pretty and popular, the older sister is bitter and vengeful. The soundtrack features Letters to Cleo in a 1970s mood covering Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me" and Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind". Sweden's Cardigans include a rare B-side, "War". George Clinton's "Atomic Dog". Joan Armatrading's "The Weakness in Me". and Madness's "Wings of a Dove" still sound fresh. 10 - All in All a great buy and needs to be in everyone's CD collection!
Only downside is there is a few songs in the film that aren't on the CD but oh well i'm sure you'll get over that.
The songs on the album are as follows:
1. I Want You To Want Me - LETTERS TO CLEO ~ this is a rocky, uptempo number which my sister loves, so i suppose the girlies can relate to the lyrics.
2. FNT - SEMISONIC ~ I don't remember ... ...me laugh everytime. 10. Dazz - BRICK ~ This is a funky little techno number, which you can get your groove on to. 11. War - CARDIGANS ~ Love the Cardigans, so they can never do wrong in my book. 12. Wings Of A Dove - MADNESS ~ This reminds me of the songs from Grease which is good, because that was also a teen romance back in the day. 13. Cruel To Be Kind - LETTERS TO CLEO ~ A great remake of cruel to be Kind with a rocky, modern feel to it. 14. ...

Advantages: Good Introduction To Some Fairly Unknown Artists Disadvantages: Some Weak Tracks
...Winter – Sister Hazel), Track 10 (The Weakness In Me – Joan Armatrading) and Track 5 (Even Angels Fall - Jessica Riddle). “Your Winter” is my overall favourite as I just think it is heartbreakingly beautiful, with amazing lyrics (“I won't be your winter / I won't be anyone's excuse to cry”). “The Weakness In Me” comes a close second. It is an emotional Ballard about not having enough strength to resist new love, but at the same time not wanting to ... ...haven’t heard any of Joan Armatrading's other songs but if they compare to this one I will certainly be looking out for her album. “Even Angels Fall” is another Ballad, maybe not as unique as the other 2 and the cynical among you may think it is nothing special, but it is still one of my favourites with good lyrics (“you will fly and you will crawl / god knows even angels fall”).

I've been looking for this CD for a while and in the end had to fork out £12.99 to amazon in order to get it. Although the price is a little steep it was worth it. Although the film mirrors Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew' the soundtrack seems to deviate and not show the same feminist attitudes as the film itself. The CD itself comprises of 14 tracks and although my favourite song from the film, 'One Week' by Bare Naked Ladies, the other tracks ... ...Kind' by Letters to Cleo and 'I Know' by Save Ferris. This is the kind of music to be listened to after a bad day when screaming and shouting seems appropriate as it is very feminine indie rock. The sleeve is filled with images from the film to help remind you that this is not simply a good compilation album, it belongs with a movie. Many of the artists I had not heard of before purchasing the album but since then have bought several by many of them ...
