I really enjoyed the film and just had to buy this soundtrack to remind me of my favourite scenes. I bought my copy from Cd-Wow for £8.99, although I don’t think they are selling it anymore. I am sure you will be able to purchase it cheaply on e-bay or amazon marketplace (Watch out for postage costs though).
My favourite tracks on the album have to be Track 4 (Your Winter – Sister Hazel), Track 10 (The Weakness In Me – Joan Armatrading) and Track 5 (Even Angels Fall - Jessica Riddle). “Your Winter” is my overall favourite as I just think it is heartbreakingly beautiful, with amazing lyrics (“I won't be your winter / I won't be anyone's excuse to cry”). “The Weakness In Me” comes a close second. It is an emotional Ballard about not having enough strength to resist new love, but at the same time not wanting to break the heart of someone who loves you. Unfortunately I haven’t heard any of Joan Armatrading's other songs but if they compare to this one I will certainly be looking out for her album. “Even Angels Fall” is another Ballad, maybe not as unique as the other 2 and the cynical among you may think it is nothing special, but it is still one of my favourites with good lyrics (“you will fly and you will crawl / god knows even angels fall”).
Other good tracks on the album are Track 1 (I Want You To Want Me – Letter To Cleo), Track 2 (F.N.T. – Semisonic), Track 3 (I Know - Save Ferris), and Track 13 (Cruel To Be Kind – Letter To Cleo). “I Want You To Want Me” is the first of two songs contributed by “Letters To Cleo”. I think this is a great song to open the compilation, despite being played at the very end of the film. Although the lyrics are quite sad, the song itself is very upbeat with good music and vocals. “F.N.T” was a song that I was not too keen on when I first bought this album but because it was played during one of my favourite scenes in the film (When Patrick and Kat go paint balling) it has really grown on me and I now love it. It is this rock group’s best song. “I Know” is the one song that I think every one will know even if they haven’t seen the film. It is the best of the faster songs and you can’t help but sing and dance along. I think the only thing that lets this song down is the male vocals, which don’t match the standard set by Monique Powell. “Cruel To Be Kind” is equally as good as the first song by “Letters To Cleo.
Although this album has some weak tracks (Thank God for the skip button on my cd player) I think this is a good soundtrack to add to your collection. It may not be as good as the film, but it has introduced me to some new artists and also set me off on a new obsession of buying soundtracks to all my favourite films.
