Advantages: Eclectic choices from today and yesterday that enhance the show's droll, occasionally poignant, sensibility.

...The soundtrack CD to 'Weeds', Showtime's outstanding comedy (dramedy?), may not include all the songs used in Season 1, but what's on here fully conveys the droll, engaging humour of the show. Just like the series, whose loony tales revolve around the mildly controversial and as-of-yet widely illicit Cannabis sativa plant, the music is plenty playful and mischievous, at times poignant, and only rarely dark. All 'Weeds' fans already know track one by heart. It's the vintage antiestablishment ditty, 'Little Boxes,' that plays during the main title sequence. Animation and Photoshopped footage unsubtly mock the sterile, repetitive sameness of the suburban housescape as Malvina Reynolds sings these words she wrote in the early Sixties to describe what we still accept today as typical of Levittown-like Anytown, Suburbia, USA (partial... Advantages: Beautiful eastern vibe
Disadvantages: No real standout track

...Your old band was among the first to bastardise the blues and turn it into something else. Your drummer died a particularly rock 'n' roll death by choking on his own vomit. So what now? Retire into relative obscurity and live out the rest of your days peacefully? Or team up with your old sparring partner and bash out some new tunes to take round the stadia of the world. Thankfully Messrs Page and Plant have opted for the latter. The master of the riff and his poet laureate are back. The Eastern mysticism that surrounded their first regrouped effort, No Quarter, is still present. Jimmy still makes use of his trademark altered tunings, but there are no Led Zep covers this time.
