Album Notes: Finland's Spiritus Mortus features the remnants of the group Rigor Mortis, now playing a traditional take on doom metal: all darkness, blues riffs, and attitude. On FALLEN, their second album, the group comes off as the unholy spawn of Motorhead and Danzig, with the muscular guitar heft of the former crossed with the imagery and feel of the latter. Tracks such as the sparse "All in the Name of Love" prove that these guys can tone down from the harder fare like "Sleeping Beneath the Lawn" and "Divine Wind" and still manage to deliver the same impact.
Advantages: Occational Touch of Greatness Disadvantages: A Load of Hippy Nonsence (Sorry Hippies)
...Way back and the early nineties I was dragged kicking and screaming to one of Daevid Allen's acoustic shows, "He was in Gong, a load of whimsical hippie nonsense" was roughly my expressed opinion. That night however my thought changes albeit on a temporary basis, I was knocked back by the mans charisma and the music that night was superb.
The album starts off innocuously enough with "Flamenco Zero" an acoustic number with some very nice guitarplaying on it, and I am a happy Champ about this as I like the sound of a well played acoustic guitar. "Why Do We Treat Ourselves Like We Do?" again continues the theme of exceptionally well playedguitar and some Hawkwind esque vocals but the general hippyness of the lyric puts me off and soon it disapears off into some whimsical land.
The third track "Tally and Orlando Meet the Cockpit...

A lot of people dismissed De La Soul as hippies when they first arrived on the scene. Sure, they shied away from the limelight, refused to follow rap’s uniform of gold chains and gold teeth and wore leather medallions with African maps and CND logos on them. Then they recorded this track: a song in which they talk to various animals and get their views of an ever-changing world. “I was walking on the water when I saw a crocodile/he had daisies in his hat so I stopped him for a while”. Aside from the new age mumbo jumbo, the lyrics are rather astute and the shuffling beat and distinct bassline make this a treat.
**13. Potholes In My Lawn**
"I've got potholes in my lawn", raps Trugoy on this song about the sheer monotony of white, suburban life. Comparing the ghetto lifestyles of it's largely...

Advantages: insert opinion here Disadvantages: the long wait until volume 2
..., this music was probably playing in the background. This is another great original with Jim Fuller playing lead guitar. There is hardly any speaking, which is good as it is pure music: Surf On Dude!!!

15. Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench - 3:52
One of the more modern songs on the CDs, it does not, however, disappoint. Yet another great guitar intro and that famous pause that many good songs have. I like this song and so do the CD producers, saying Dave Grohl is phenomenal.

16. Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town - 3:52
Everyone knows this song, or at least should know this song. It is a very good song with a very competent Phil Lynott providing great guitar listening. Great to listen to in stereo near the middle.

17. Black Sabbath - Paranoid - 2:46
Oh Yeah! Paranoid is a fantastic song, not least due to the guitar...
