1977 - What can I say, it’s magnificent. I really do love this Cd so this is likely to be quite a biased, but then that’s what opinions are about I suppose.
It begins pretty heavily with “Lose Control” . Ash I find is about the heaviest music I can listen to. This all seems a bit crashier than som eof the newer stuff i’ve heard from them and it really is what Ash means to me. Squealy guitars, drums, bass lines and a really great voice which remains beautifully tuneful which is refreshing with this sort of music where you often find a lead singer who will manicly scream his lungs out rather than sing.
There are some outstanding songs here especially “Girl from Mars”, “Kung Fu” and “Lost in You”. Girl from Mars is a classic and you’re bound to be singing along as soon as you hear it. It has quite a happy feel to it and a really great chorus. Kung Fu, I dn’t know how to sum up, it’s fast and furious but still a really good little song. And Lost in you, if you’ve got someone to miss then this really is the song to do it to. Hold back the tears if you can, it’s a real contrast to the rest and really beautiful.
It’s a Cd of songs you’re likely to recognise as I think it ws first released in 1996, but it’s a fantastic Cd to put on whatever your mood. Weather you need a sound track to scream and shout, laugh, cry, go a bit mad or just have in the background, this really is music for any occassion. (although perhaps with a little more emphasis on the stamping your feet and going mad bit)
GUIDE TO 1977 - Songs to go mad to - Lose Control, I’d give you anything, Kung Fu, Girl from Mars, Angel Interceptor, Darkside Lightside. Something a bit lighter- Goldfinger, Gone the dream, Oh Yeah, Let it flow, Lost in you.
It’s a hard one to sum up. There’s a great deal of variety and it’s raelly hard to pin down a specific style but Ash are definately a band with their own sound so i’d definately recommend it if you want something a little alternative but not outrageously so.
