Craigie Dhu , Dougie MacLean
Review of Craigie Dhu - Dougie MacLean by mumsymary

Advantages: lovely celtic music
Disadvantages: he rarely playes live down south

...I am listening to Dougie MacLean singing on the CD CraigieDhu. Dougie MacLean is a Scottish Folksinger songwriter. He began playing in the seventies with the Tannahill Weavers and Silly Wizard. In 1983 he concentrated on his solo work. His first solo record was Cragie Dhu He wrote many of the songs in this collection himself. Playing with Dougie on this album are vocals, guitar, fiddle. Roy Ashby: drums (track 9). Martin Hadden: guitar (track 5). Patsy Seddon: clarsach (track 3). Jimmy Anderson: electric guitar (Track 9). Dougie Maclean plays guitar, fiddle and sings the vocals. The track list is as below 1.Gin I were a Barons Heir. Traditional This tune and song is a gentle one asking a lassie if he were a rich man would she love him. In the last verse he admits he has nothing to offer her but he loves her 2.Ready for the Storm... Read review

Every Day I Write The Book, a Top Thirty single, was one of Costello’s most cultured songs but was the only genuine highlight on a very dim collection. In the usual ironic way fo things, the same public that had overlooked Trust flocked to the stores for Punch The Clock - perhaps because of the massive publicity that the new album was afforded. With Punch The Clock, it seemed that Costello had stopped fighting for the moment; by the end of 1983, it appeared that Elvis Costello’s aim was truce.... Read review
