I'm a 24 yr old female actor/writer working in London. Interests are Theatre, Film and Television. When i'm not acting or writing my next ground-breaking script (salt, pinch of - needed), I work a admin job in the city. Living the dream, eh?

There seems to be a new wave of female, jazz-esque vocalists reaching the masses, Ms. Winehouse being the front runner (when she's not smoking crack cocaine and scrambling about on stage in an alcohol fuelled mess), that is until Adele arrived on the scene this year. I'm sure she's sick of being compared to winehouse by now, but there's no denying that you can fit them nicely in to the same 'music box'. I first heard Adele's track 'Hometown Glory' on Xfm in Dec '07 - when Marsha described the track as 'devastatingly beautiful', which indeed it is. The song is a simple account of her everyday musings inspired by her, well, hometown. But it's all about the way that she sings it.....(the piano helps too). From then I made it my mission to seek out this talented voice and buy her debut, 19. OK, so it's not as edgy as Winehouse's 'Frank', and lyrically doesn't match Amy's cutting, street-savvy lyrics, but her voice is quite incredible. Raspy and soulful, she's like a warm tub of honey with a twist of lemon. Vocally she sounds way beyond her years. I love that her image isn't 'the norm' and that she hasn't (yet) been tainted by the media hype. She comes across in her music as a wholesome, good humoured, girl-next-door type. She sings mostly about a broken heart, a boy who wasn't worth the hassle, a romantic beginning, or as in Homtown Glory - life as seen by a 19 year old (with a particularly mature voice). Ok, so some of it's a bit too pop-sheen for my personal taste, but when she pulls it off so well, I can't help but join the masses on this one.
Stand-out tracks: Chasing Pavements; My Same; Hometown Glory.
