Album Notes: The Knockout Pills: Matt Rendon (vocals, guitar); Travis Spillers (vocals, bass guitar); Jason Willis (guitar); Gerard Schumacher (drums).
Advantages: A gorgeous, relaxing version of her original, 1995 album Disadvantages: No new tracks
...This album marks the 10 year anniversary of the release of Alanis' original 'Jagged Little Pill'.
I was such a fan of Alanis' 1995 album, 'Jagged Little Pill' that when I saw the acoustic version advertised in the summer of this year (2005) I purchased a copy almost immediately.
Apart from the fact that the songs are now heard as acoustic versions, there are some very subtle changes to the keys in which some of the songs are performed. "One hand in my pocket" for example, has sections that are distinctly more minor, making it a more interesting track than if it had simply been acoustic-ified!
The tracks are as follows:
1. All I Really Want
2. You Oughta Know
3. Perfect
4. Hand In My Pocket
5. Right Through You
6. Forgiven
7. You Learn
8. Head Over Feet
9. Mary Jane
10. Ironic
11. Not the Doctor...

Advantages: Great voice; new versions of old songs Disadvantages: No new material -but i guess that is the point of the album.
...I bought this CD with a little hesitation as the original 'Jagged Little Pill' album back in 1995 was a classic. After being unimpressed with her last album 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie' I wondered what the motives behind re-releasing this album in an accoustic format were. A quick and easy payday? Cashing in on the reputation and success of what has to be said was a great album?
I'm glad to say that my fears were unfounded and that the album is well worth the money spent. All of the tracks i have listened to have not detracted any from those on the original album - in fact i found myself listening to both albums in order to compare which version i found to be the best. I found this very difficult as each version has its own merits! The relaxing nature of the acoustic version is a contrast to the more 'rocky', upbeat style...

Advantages: Packed full of stunning tunes Disadvantages: I suppose it's an acquired taste
...After looking back at my old reviews on Ciao, I was ashamed at how poor my previous review of this was, even for a first ever attempt (hence all the "somewhat helpful"s). Well now hopefully I can correct that and possibly turn that into an overall "helpful" or even "very helpful".
Alanis Morisette was born in Ottawa, Canada on June 1st 1974, and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16. She released a debut album simply called Alanis in 1991, but this was not very successful. Jagged Little Pill was her first major album, released in 1995 with the help of her "spiritual brother" and producer Glen Ballard, and she became an overnight success with her style of angry, aggressive rock about love and, well, men. The album won her several awards as well as fame, including Best International Newcomer at the Brits, and 4 Grammy awards...
