The idea of this album is to show off Mariah Carey’s 12 number 1 singles hence the name #1’s!
Mariah makes it clear in the sleeve that “this is not a greatest hits album!” she also says that the album “is a thank you and an acknowledgment of my gratitude to all of you out there for making these records #1 on the charts”.
Right, ok, who the heck is she trying to kid? It’s a very easy way to make a hell of a lot of money!
But because I love Mariah Carey (not just for her gorgeous looks but also for her amazing singing ability, really, honest!) I think the #1’s album is a superb compilation album; it features most of her hit singles that have topped the charts.
Track-by-track review:
Track #1: Sweetheart This is a bonus track. It is a relatively fast moving song featuring JD. This is a good song to have a dance to, though I do get the feeling that JD is trying to up-stage Mariah with his free-style rapping.
Track #2: When You Believe This is another bonus track. I think that this is one of Mariah's best songs. This is Mariah’s duet with the other ‘super diva’ Whitney Houston! It is from the soundtrack to ‘The Prince Of Egypt’. Their voices go nice together and I think this song proves they both have talent of their own (so people stop saying ‘Mariah is better than Whitney’ or vice versa, please!) This song is about what you can achieve ‘when you believe’.
Track #3: Whenever You Call This is yet another bonus track. This is a duet with Bryan McKnight and while both McKnight and Mariah Carey provided really good vocals, the music itself was too unexciting and the lyrics are not the best.
Track #4: My All This is the first #1 and it is an appropriately slow yet soothing song. The guitar playing in the background adds a sexy flavour to this song. The lyrics ("Baby can you feel me? Imagining I'm looking in your eyes. I can see you clearly, vividly emblazoned in my mind.") are simple yet they create a fabulous love song, the kind she is so good at.
Track #5, Honey Is another good song, I liked how the term "honey" is used metaphorically. It is a great song to have a dance to.
Track #6: Always Be My Baby This song has some really good lyrics, if someone wants to go, you can let them go because they’ll always be your baby and your love for them will never die. You’ll always be a part of each other! Once again great vocal from Ms Carey!
Track #7: One Sweet Day The vocals, provided by both Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men are excellent. The lyrics ("And I know you're shining down on me from heaven. Like so many friends we've lost along the way.") are inspiring as well, reminding us that the "One Sweet Day" will arrive.
Track #8: Fantasy Personally I prefer this song without the ODB rap, but I also like this one, it’s amazing how different the song sounds! It’s about how amazing it is when you find your fantasy lover.
Track #9: Hero I found the lyrics, ("So when you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong. And you'll finally see the truth, that a hero lies in you") were absolutely heartfelt. Hero is one of the most inspiring songs to me. This song truly has a lot of depth, and the theme about finding the "hero" inside all of us is remarkably touching. The lyrics are simple, yet this song carries a lot of meaning. One of my favourite songs!
Track #10: Dreamlover This is a very free-spirited, fun song to listen to. It’s about how she wants someone to come and comfort and hold her she wants a “Dreamlover”.
Track #11: I'll Be There This is a duet with Trey Lorenz (I’m not quite sure who he is!) This song has a fine melody and upbeat lyrics; it’s about a couple making a pact to be there for each other when they need someone.
Track #12: Emotions This is an enthusiastic song with plenty of liveliness; the beat was exciting enough to make me want to dance (which is always good!) It’s about someone who’s so happy and in love that their emotions are deeper than they’ve ever dreamed of.
Track #13: Someday Another very enjoyable song, about a man who’s drove away his woman by never being satisfied with her, she’s telling him that someday he will want her back because he will never get anyone as good as her.
Track #14: Love Takes Time This is a wonderful song about heartbroken souls and the power of making up. Lyrics include, "You might say that you don't care. You might say you don't miss me. You don't need me. But I know that you do, and I feel that you do." What I enjoy about this song so much is that I can relate to the words; I listen to this song to remind me about how love is an important part of life part of life.
Track #15: Vision of Love This is great. The theme of this song is what it means to find the right soul mate and how they would treat each other; this is her vision of what true love would be like.
Track #16: I Still Believe This is the last bonus track. It is a cover, the song was originally sung by Brenda K. Starr. Mariah Carey does a great job; it is about a woman saying that she still believes that one day herself and a current partner will fall in love again.
That’s my review; I hope it was somehow useful to you, if you are undecided whether or not to buy this album I suggest you get it, it really is fantastic! Someone said ‘If you only get one Mariah Carey album, get this one’ and they are very right!

I think this album is a superb compilation album; it features most of her singles that have topped the charts.
When I brought this album it cost me £12.99.
Here are a few big hits off this album that made it big in the US Without You, Hero, Fantasy and My All.
I have found her more up to date songs not to be so good like her album 'Rainbow' has more ...

Advantages: Wow!! Disadvantages: Where are the christmas tunes??!!
I know Mariah does not consider it a Greatest Album, but what a voice!!! Who need her entire back-catelogue when her whole career is summed up on one CD?!
She generous girl even encluded that great tune with Whitney Houston (my fave)!! A great voice & not a bad looker either...
But she is right to say that her career is just beginning - so, i suppose it is a bit early on for a greatest hits album. Not many people have a 5 octive voice, which is ...

Great songs Review of1's - Mariah Careyby
SARAH2001
Advantages: Disadvantages:
I bought this album after seeing the track listing. It had all my favourites on one CD. This CD is a must for anyone who has ever like any of her songs. Her voice is so powerful and this album is a mixture of her oldest songs as well as many recent ones, but all of them are classics. Considering that this isn't even a greatest hits album, it is full of all the songs you know Mariah Carey for. An excellent buy for any CD collection. If you haven't ...

This album contains all of the classics, One sweet Day, Hero, Dreamlover and the latest stuff such as Honey. The album itself will have you singing along and you will realise how many records that she has produced and how talented she is. The albums title corresponds to America and may not seem fitting for the UK a sthe only number one single that she has had is 'without you'.But as this cover says this is a tribute tot he fans and the success that ...

Advantages: A couple of pleasant tracks, and a powerful voice Disadvantages: Too much voice acrobatics and not much to get excited about
Mariah Carey on famine in Africa- “I’d love to be thin like those people, but not with all those flies and stuff”. This, is, apparently, a genuine quote, and really rather sums up this album. It is full of stupid, lame songs filled with her voice, that is so badly used it will leave you scared rather than touched. This woman slept her way to the top, and somehow managed to win over the American public, with most of these tracks ...

Advantages: great to have a cd with all her best songs on! Disadvantages: a bit pricey considering its been available for such a long time
...although its a bit pricey compared to normal CD prices its worth the money! Its great to have an album where you dont need to skip certain tracks because there the typical 'album tracks' which are basically poor songs and are just on there to fill up the space! lol! i never actually realised how many good songs she's released and more to the point how many number 1's she had! its a brilliant buy because the songs aren't all the same, theres the typical ballads for example 'Hero' but then theres ones such as 'heartbreaker' which are more upbeat. not really a fan of the artist but no one can deny that she has a unique and amazing voice! i'd definately reccomend this album to anyone i know loads of both boys and girls who love the album as much as me! go buy it now! xxx...

Advantages: Similar recipe to volume 1 - lots of good tunes Disadvantages: A few odd tracks
...from the best selling dance album of 2002 is Try. The album version of this is long, drawn-out and frankly quite dull, but for the single they’ve cut it down a bit and given Ian a good hard beef injection. The result is another radio-friendly song that I’m sure will do well for itself. The bonus is, of course, that the single isn’t even out yet – so Clubland 2 has given you a bit of an exclusive.
REZONANCE Q – SOMEDAY
It must be the gay man in me, but this tune is so awful it’s completely infectious. Someday is a cover version of the MariahCarey song that was number 1 in America years ago (it made about no 38 here). It runs at about eight hundred miles an hour, and has this high-pitched bitch vocal that just has to be heard to be believed. I can just see the song being performed on TOTP now –...

Blessed with a voice that covers more of a range than anyone this side of Minnie Riperton, and a knack for ingratiating, breezy pop/R&B, Mariah Carey became one of the premier pop divas of the '90s. For those who were hibernating during that decade, #1's lays it all out in an easily digestible format, presenting Carey's biggest and best under one roof. From the inspirational message of the poignant ballad "Hero" to the roots nod of "I'll Be There" (with impressive assistance from Trey Lorenz), it's clear that Carey has charisma to match her chops. On the infectious, almost giddy "Dream Lover" she voices her romantic desires so sweetly that the listener is moved by the urge to jump into the track on a white horse and whisk her off to some mythological paradise. Now that's the mark of a convincing singer.
