Advantages: excellent music, history recorded, Dylan at war with the audience, unique expirence Disadvantages: addictive, NONE!
...'The Royal AlbertHall' bootleg became the most talked about, sought after and significant bootleg in the history of music. So much so that is was effectively legalised and turned into an official release by Columbia and released in a rather wonderful package in 1998. This is one of the most written about and discussed albums to ever be laid down on tape. Personally never had I read and thought so much about an album that I hadn't actually bought. In the past the album and the event it captures has been the sole focus for discussion on such top end television programmes as Newsnight on the BBC. It seems every Bob Dylan fan loves the album, and they hail it as one of the greatest albums ever. With all this in mind when I finally decided the time had come to actually buy it I ordered it with very high expectations indeed!

Advantages: Some fantastic songs that benefitted from a live atmosphere. Disadvantages: Some tracks didn't work vocally, a little Beatle bias.
...as 'Yesterday' and 'Live and Let Die', this double disk set boasted some of the most influential songs of alltime, solidifying McCartney's rightful spot in the music Hall of Fame. I was glad that this CD didn't dwell too much on the fact that it comprised of live performances from various shows across the USA; with the exception of the catchy 'Hey Jude', none of the songs had a lot of chattering with the crowd included. To me, that's a good thing; some times that self reflexivity wears thin but it didn't have a chance to on this occasion.
One to own if you are a serious Beatles/McCartney fan or if you are discovering either for the first time!

Advantages: Lots of brilliant stuff Disadvantages: Some not-so-brilliant stuff, "Revolution 9"
...It is very rare for a double album to be an amazing piece of work. In my experience with double albums, I have always been left thinking, "Wow, that would have been a good single album if they had left some of the trash off." But one double album that is widely hailed as one of the best albums of alltime (or is it two of the best?) is The Beatles' 1968 self-titled effort, more commonly known as The White Album.
Hopefully, everyone knows who the Beatles are. Even if you think you don't know the Beatles, you must have heard at least one of their songs on the radio. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr made up the group that is quite possibly the best rock 'n' roll band ever. The Beatles had 27 number one hits and influenced just about every musician who came after them.
Of course, the Beatles were not...
