...yes thats right folks! Gerald Finzi's music can be described as many things, but genius must be one of them. Gerald Finzi was a British composer in the early 20th Century. Though mostly known for his choral works and hymns, his orchestral pieces give him standing among the all-time musical greats. With an incredible understanding of counterpoint and harmony all the music is atmospheric and paints scenes of true England: rolling hills and valleys, greenery and wildlife. It is true, that a musician's world can be portrayed through his work. The clarinet works, performed by Robert plane, are masterfully directed and performed, keeping close to the original scores even throughout the cadenzas and most intricate of passages. Classical voices to relax and uplift

Advantages: Good background listening
Disadvantages: Odd mixture of music on the Uplifting disc

...-Thomas. This piece has a very simple melody, and a sound I would describe as very pure. 9 Hummel - 'Benedictus'. This is from Hummel's Mass in D Major. He was a composer I'd previously heard of, but I have since found out he was Austrian, lived from 1778 to 1837 and was a child prodigy on the piano before going on to compose music. Again this is a very calming piece of music. 10 Lauridsen - 'O Magnum Mysterium'. I love this track and it is one of my favourites from the whole album. Morten Lauridsen is a modern American composer but here he has written a wonderful choral work which sounds as though it was written in a much earlier time. It has a very spiritual feeling to it and a lot of depth. 11 Tallis - 'Spem in Alium'. This is an amazing choral piece sung here by The Sixteen. Tallis was an early English composer of church music. Advantages: cool, sophisticated, unique...
Disadvantages: none

...Startlingly original pianist, blending Japanese folk music with early 20th century French impressionism, and oblique yet infectious jazz sensibility echoing Thelonius Monk. She develops her classical composing skills within a jazz context. The music is a rich mixture of classical/traditional Japanese folk and European jazz influences Delicate, beautiful, diverse and inspirational music. This highly talented Japanese pianist is currently promoting original music.
