I liked singer Adele's first album 19, so decided to buy her second CD, 21, as well. Released in 2011, this album is even better than her first. Rolling in the Deep begins the album - this is an... more

Advantages Advantages Strong musical content, outstanding vocals and good production

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ryan Tedder's production on "Rumour Has It"

Three years ago it seemed the charts were awash with singers being hailed as “neo soul” - led by Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele. Winehouse has of course been absent for some time, dealing with substance issues and working on that difficult third album. Duffy released her second album at the tail end of 2010 which was hugely underwhelming and you’d be forgiven for thinking the entire project had vanished into thin air. That just leaves Adele, whose debut album 19 belied a talent that seemed out of place in the young girl with alabaster skin and a raucous laugh. Time has, however, revealed her ... more

Advantages Advantages Some absolutely gorgeous songs

Disadvantages Disadvantages Couple of weak tracks early on that break up the flow of the album

Watching the Royal Variety Performance on TV recently, my attention was caught by a singer with a powerful voice and a great song, which I didn’t recognise. Due to the slight country undertones, I wondered at first if the artist was Lady Antebellum, a group I’d heard good things about. However, the song turned out to be “Rolling in the Deep”, the first single from the second album by Adele. It is three years since Adele’s debut album, which came out about 5 weeks before Duffy’s debut album. Sadly, proving that in the music industry, good looks can get your more sales than a good voice, Duffy’s ... more

Advantages Advantages Stunning voice, relatable lyrics, timeless production and a good number of uptempos.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

It is beyond clear that 2011 belongs to British soul singer, Adele. Her second studio album, simply titled '21', has gone on to break records around the world - selling 2.6 million copies in the UK in just five short months. Such a figure is mirrored on the other side of the Atlantic, where Rolling in the Deep has become the best selling single of the year. This success is deserving but a little unexpected, for a singer whose stripped-back production values and unapologetically unpolished media interaction is well known. With such attention surrounding Adele, it's easy for someone who hasn't ... more

Advantages Advantages Some excellent songs, maturity, great voice

Disadvantages Disadvantages No printed lyrics in the booklet, a couple of forgettable tracks

Adele is currently making headlines as her latest album 21 has beaten Madonna’s record and is now the album that has stayed at Number One the longest out of those made by a solo female singer. Someone Like You – a track from this album – became her first Number One single earlier this year. Adele was born in London in 1988 and graduated from the BRIT school, which has also helped produce Leona Lewis and Jessie J. Her first album 19 was released in January 2008 and 21 was released three years later. I first noticed Adele in 2008 when her song Chasing Pavements seemed to be on television and ... more

Advantages Advantages An artist who fulfilled their promise.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages She's better live.

A lot of pop fans at the minute would say that Adele is one of the biggest stars of 2011 sweeping many hearts away with her down to earth image and break up songs that everyone can relate to which have been played to death by radio stations. At some point, at least a few songs or this entire album has crept up on your playlist or joined a pile of CDs of someone you know. There was simply no escape from this album. The thought of a fragile and modest female singer who wrote her own songs, kept her clothes on, didn't abuse auto-tune and wasn't too fussed about her image excited a variety of ... more
