...On June 17th 1967 Liberty Records placed an advert in the New Musical Express paper for talent; it wanted artists, composers or singer-musicians to form a new group.
In a rural village called Owmby-by-Spital in Lincolnshire, a young teenager named Bernie Taupin had written some poems & with a little persuasion from his mother, he sent them to Liberty records.
Meanwhile in Pinner, North London, another young lad called Reginald Kenneth Dwight (a.k.a. EltonJohn) submitted details of himself to Liberty & received a request to do an audition.
Around this time EltonJohn had played keyboards for a band called Bluesology who amongst others had backed Long John Baldry. ...The first album I ever bought on vinyl. double album. great art work on the cover. It wanted you to 'go inside' and discover more.
Some fantastic lyrics, soul searching, and very 70's in its concept.
I bought the CD about 5 years ago, and it was as good as I remember it all those years ago. The words are still poigniant, and meaningful. (I'm a little older now and understand the content a LOT better!)
EltonJohn is still one of the best legends of our time. I am so sad he never had more no 1 hits in his career - but there is time yet!
A must have for any serious music buffs - old and new! Why would you want to records it from Vinyl to CD yourself? The quality keeps the originality....

Advantages: Mostly high quality music Disadvantages: Couple of duds
...If you've only ever dicovered EltonJohn in the 80's, 90's or noughties then you'll be familiar with songs such as 'I'm still standing', 'Nikita' and 'Can you feel the love tonight'.
Yes, EltonJohn's dire outpourings have spanned many decades but there was a time when his outpourings were far from dire. This time was the 70's.
After all, you wouldn't get established on the pop scene with rubbish like that so he must have done something good at some time.
'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' shows us exactly why he is still around today and considered a legend. It's just a shame he couldn't keep up the standard.
This album is excellent, all bar a couple of dodgy tracks. It features some classics such as 'Candle in the Wind' and 'Bennie and the Jets' and the whole album has a melancholy tone.
Ideal for chill-out, hippie-style parties...
