...Music from the TV series The Thorn Birds. The TV show was based on the 1977 novel by Colleen McCullough. A best seller at the time and impulsive viewing for ITV viewers in the UK in the early/mid 1980s. The programmes was set on a fictional farm - or "sheep station" in the Australian outback in pre-war days and focussed on the dramas that unfold and develop around the Clearys, a millionaire family. Over the years, various deaths, crises and disasters tell the Cleary family story. The disasters are deaths by fires, drowning and... if my memory serves me correctly, death by pig or wild boar! This CD features 58 tracks from the original Thorn Birds soundtrack. Whereas the music may not help the ladies with the swooning over Richard Chamberlain, as the early 80's hearthrob, the tracks do take you emotion memory back to the programme... Read review

...Tricky's follow up to the highly acclaimed "Maxinquaye" sees a darker, moodier tricky moving more towards his hip-hop yearnings. The opening track is a fairly happy affair, Martina sings "I’m the one who hides his medicine, watch him stop breathing" and this sort of sets the tone. Other dark tracks include the ending "Piano" and "makes me wanna die" which is possibly one of the best chillout tunes ever written, and the ultimate love song for indie kids everywhere. Martina shines on many tracks especially "lyrics of fury" which will have you dancing for ages. Other notable tracks are "Tricky Kid" where Tricky talks about his pursuit by the media. He was called the messiah of music and was photographed for a magazine with a crown of thorns. "Ghetto youth", "sex drive", "bad things" and "My evil is strong" fill out the album continuing... This year’s songs are ‘crown of thorns’ – an excellent cover version of the classic Mother Love Bone track!!, and ‘can’t help falling in love again’ – which you may think would be strange but as I’m forever saying, Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder could play and sing any song in the world and it would sound mega – such is their talent and maybe I’m biased too!!
