21st Century Disco 2003 - Various Artists

Advantages: CD2 big hits of the 21st C / CD1 forgotten best's of the 90's
Disadvantages: some 'anthems' not included, some shouldnt be included - & no BLUR

...My lovely sister brought this album for me for Christmas apparently her partner's choice; 'get this one, this is so Donna' spot on i say; great album. It is a great album, one that i would personally see in the shop and buy, but having said that i am more drawn to the tracks on CD1, however that tends to be typical of my compilation listening habits, I'm usually drawn to one CD more than the other, or I'll go through stages of listening to one of the CD'S then when bored I'll listen to the other one until boredom prevails! It is quite a full and varied compilation CD, 21 tracks on each CD, mainly dedicated to to 2003 to 2006 but many tracks from the 90's, even one from 1989 has escaped onto the album! ...This score by Vangelis is far superior to his 1981 oscar winning score for Chariots of Fire because it compliments the exquisite looking images and futuristically grungy atmosphere that pervade Ridley Scotts seminal film. In fact I've never seen a film where the music fits so perfectly all the way through. From the gorgeously mystical opening synth chords accompanying those initial stunning images of 21st century LA, to the pounding, unforgettable end title. And I think the erotic and dreamy love theme played by a smoother than a baby's bum saxophone is totally spellbinding, but like the rest of the music, never intrudes on the action(like all the best scores). The soundtrack is the finishing touch to a masterpiece.... Read review
