Advantages: Great blues! Disadvantages: None. Whatsoever.
...I have to admit I found JohnnyWinter totally by chance. I was in a record shop and saw a CD in a round, metal case. "JohnnyWinter? The Texas Tornado? I'll buy that!" So I did.
What I found was a musician, JohnnyWinter, who is a hard rocking bluesman of consummate skill. JohnnyWinter is such a accomplished bluesman that I have to admit that it came as something of a shock to discover that JohnnyWinter is a white Texan. Though he reveals that he hung out in the black part of his hometown in Texas, such was his fever for the blues. And, Winter maintains that it was his sincerity about his passion for the blues that meant that he was safe there. Even though Beaumont had not long before suffered form some terrible racially-inspired riots.
Winter's blue's sound as if they were recorded in the 1940s or 1950s. Actually, I...

...The first cd in this double collection is Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison.
It was recorded in 1968 (well before i was born). This was the time of Presidential Abdication, The Vietnam War and the continuing Civil Rights struggle. It was also the same year Mr. Johnny Cash married Miss June Carter, his saviour. This cd really opened my eyes to what life was like "back in the day". With 19 great songs including "Folsom Prison Blues", "Cocaine Blues" and the fantastic "Jackson" a duet with June. There had never been a recording session quite like this one which produced this album. The songs on the cd's:-
1 Folsom prison blues
2 Busted
3 Dark as the dungeon
4 I still miss someone
5 Cocaine Blues
6 25 minutes to go
7 Orange Blossom Blues
8 The long Black Veil
9 Send a picture of Mother
10 The wall
11 Dirty old egg-suckin' dog
12...

Advantages: Totaly Definitive Album Disadvantages: None Whasoever Buy It and Make your life Better
...For definitive albums you don't get much more definitive than this one. Johnny Cash backed by the Tennassee three and others, playing to 2000 inmates and armed guards at Folsam Prison.
The album kicks off in fine style with "Folsam Prison Blues" with the tennassee three Boom-chicka-Booming in fine style and goes down a storm with the crowd. There is also a good selection of songs paying "tribute" to Johnny's toubled past, such as "Cocaine Blues" and the gallows humor of "25 Minutes to Go". Cash's bas baritone is also in fine form throughout the recording which is especially good on the very soulful rendition of "The Green Green Grass Of Home"
The album covers pretty much the whole of Johnnys repotire filled to the brim with songs about Murder, Crime, Drinking, Drugs, Love, Spirituality and Twisted Humor. This album is pretty much...
