There are some artists with voices which are just timeless and for me Diana Ross represents just this. Maybe it is because her music with and without The Supremes is mixture of Blues, jazz, soul, pop R&B and sometimes it has a classical sound, a real mixture of music which is enough to engage my senses. I could listen to Diana's voice all day it is so smooth and has immense melody.
Browsing through Woolworth's buy one and get one half price CD selection last week I espied this little gem it cost me £10.50.
40 Golden Motown Greats Diana Ross and The Supremes (although there are other artists as well) Compiled in 1998 I really do not know how I missed this one.
When I looked at the songs on this CD it brought back a funny memory of my 10th Wedding Anniversary when we had a huge party it was a hot day way back in the 1980's and at that time we used tapes and long playing records. I had Diana Ross on a long player it was my favourite record and my husband put it on the top of a low wall outside in the garden
to be played next - the sun decided it should not be a record anymore but a nice black bowl. It was never replaced because I could never quite replace all the songs on one disc.
This little gem has at last done that for me.
There are two discs - disc one has 24 tunes and disc two 16.

As I typed out these tracks every tune came into my mind, they are catchy and lively and also seem to catch many emotions. I think that if you are in my age group the words and tunes of some of these tracks will come back to you too and rake up some of your dancing (disco ha ha !) memories. My favourite is Disc two.
The only song on here which I feel can never be sung by anyone else is River deep Mountain high nobody in my view can beat Ike and Tina Turner for this track but this is good.
This CD is great if I want to listen to background music and equally enjoyable if I feel a bit bubblier this works just as well with the volume up.
Diana Ross was a War baby being born in March 1944 in Detroit. She teamed up with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson to make The Supremes in the 1960's (Wow that seems so long ago!) She began singing solo in the 1970's. She is up there with the Beatles and Elvis for her record sales and is still known all around the world. In the early `1960's Diana Ross and the Supremes had ten no 1 hits in the US charts.
During the 1970's I saw the film Mahogany and I really enjoyed it at the cinema - I have not seen it since and have always loved the theme tune. I have read that it is due for release on DVD this year so I know what I shall be adding to my Christmas list for Santa. I know that even if my taste in films have changed over the decades the music is tremendous as is Diana Ross.
