Advantages: Spaced out Funk Disadvantages: None that I can see
...George Cliniton is a genius nothing more and nothing less. From his work with Parlament through to P-Funk he has always pushed back the boundaries. He has influenced everyone from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Dr Dre and Prince. When a lot of artists get old the quality of their music goes down GeorgeClinton has countered this by always being old (in my eyes anyway).
Musically the best way to describe the album is completley laid back psychadelic funk. If you like the sounds Dr Dre lays down on his solo stuff then you will love this, guess where Dr Dre took his blueprint from.
The first track (if anybody gets funked up(its gonna be you)) is a great peice of work with repetative trancy background female vocals creating a hypnotic effect, contrasted by a deep male vocal that just totally chills you out. The bass sends chills down...

Advantages: Classic material Disadvantages: Nothing specific
...Released in 1992, "The Chronic" is one of the most important album in the history of Hip Hop as it showcased the progression of the genre on how it had gone from New York, and got exposure as far as the other end in the country, here Dr. Dre displays what his unique take on Hip Hop is after leaving the pioneering Gangsta Rap group N.W.A, as he comes with his Parliament Funk-inspired sound named G-Funk. This style uses old P-Funk samples and adapts it to fit in with the most prominant form of Hip Hop at the time in the West; Gangsta Rap.
This is the debut album from Dr. Dre and it helped to show off all the talent in the area after he had moved on from Ice Cube and Eazy-E in N.W.A. by introducing the world to the likes of Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg and Snopp Dogg. Without this album, the West Coast may have faded away from Hip hop...

Advantages: Great cover versions Disadvantages: They're only cover versions
...organised a tribute concert. George had always been a big fan and he was a shoe-in to appear but few people thought he would steal the show so effectively. Performing with the surviving members of the band, George put on a barnstorming performance of Queen's 'Somebody to Love'. Accessing a totally different vocal register to his studio performances, George's strengths as a live performer shone through. This EP is a terrific reminder of that performance and spent a number of weeks at No. 1 in May 1993.
Other tracks include George's powerful duet with Lisa Stansfield from the same concert on 'These are the Days of our Lives'. You can also hear some of the other tracks that George had been performing on his Cover to Cover tour the previous year. There is a unique merging of the Temptations' 'Papa was a Rolling Stone' with the Adamski/Seal track...
