Advantages: Great introduction to Jazz Disadvantages: None
mood" which I haven't seen elsewhere, and I don't think Brubeck wrote it either - It is however, just amazing and so full of swinging energy that I love it. 'In your own sweet way' is a similarly great solo piano piece in which Brubeck shows his finesse on the ivories. I have tried to play this myself and I can assure you, Mr Brubeck's has very big hands. Camptown races and Bossa Nova USA are other notable quality tracks. The way that Brubeck and Paul Desmond (alto sax) play together is great, you can hear that they're well suited, as it all flows so effortlessly.
You don't have to be a hardcore Jazz fan to like this music. It's very tuneful, and will have you tapping your toe if you're in any way into rhythm. It may also open you up to one of the most underrated jazz piano player-songwriters of the last 50years.
For me, there are ...
Advantages: Full of entertaining shows... Disadvantages: ...full of repeats
on the comedy genre, when shows such as QI, Mock The Week, Live From The Apollo and Have I Got News For You find time in the running order. These differ in age from being the previous series to being a few years old, and therefore a lot of the topical jokes at the time may not make sense any longer.
But don't let that knock the shows. the likes of the comedy shows above are award winning and feature high class comedians. The daytime shows such as Top Gear have also won awards and then have a deserved place of the schedule.
But then the problem lies with there are only so many episodes to go around and seemingly too many hours to fill. Therefore expect to see repeats of these repeats...hardly a great way to sell a TV channel but that's the bottom line unfortunately. However over the past year they've attempted to produce their own unique ...

Personnel: Dave Brubeck (piano); Bobby Militello (flute); Bill Smith (clarinet); Paul Desmond (alto saxophone); Gerry Mulligan (baritone saxophone); Christian McBride, Michael Moore, Eugene Wright, Stan Poplin, Chris Brubeck, Jack Six (bass instrument); Joe Morello, Alan Dawson, Randy Jones (drum). This compilation, released in 2008, brings together 50 years of live appearances from Dave Brubeck and his groups at the Monterey Jazz Festival. If the mere fact that Brubeck has been playing Monterey from 1958 straight through to 2007 wasn't impressive enough, the consistency of his dazzling musicianship should do the trick. Naturally, Brubeck plays with a variety of musicians over the years, but each of his ensembles glow with the precision, swing, and that particular mix of classical and improvisatory elements for which the artist is known. Whether on standards ("Someday My Prince Will Come"), post-bop work-outs ("Jumping Bean"), or signature tunes ("Take Five"), Brubeck comes on strong, impressing with his range, vitality, and endurance.
