After loving the debut novel "Getting Rid of Matthew" by Jane Fallon, I was excited to see that she had another novel coming out this summer called " Got YouBack". I quickly reserved it at my local library, but my lovely fiance recently gave me a lot of High Street vouchers so I decided to treat myself to a new copy and bought it in my 3 for 2 offer from Waterstones.
Stephanie and James are happily married and living with their son in London. Or at least that's what Stephanie was led to believe until she saw a text message on James' phone which leads her to believe he's having an affair. Stephanie decides to confront his mistress Katie, and they are both shocked at the lies and deceit of their lover, and decide to get revenge. But one of the women doesn't know when to stop... how far will she go to bring down the man who betrayed her ...
Advantages: Melodic,less punk than her last2albums.Vocally brilliant/lyrically stunning/musically unbeatable. Disadvantages: I cant think of ANY negative points and I have listened to this album for more than a decade!
To BringYou My Love is probably one of my most played albums since I first got it as a teenager! I really cant rate this album highly enough and the reason for this one being held in higher esteem than all her previous albums is simply that this album has a new found freedom the others dont seem to have.
Polly J Harvey split from Robert Ellis and Stephen Vaughn, which gave her the freedom to experiment and deviate from the old bluesy punk that dominated PJ Harvey's first two albums.
Although her previouos albums to this were very good and definitely a lot better than most of the bands around at that time, they seemed to focus too much on the harsh brutallity that punk is famed for (which is all good and well) but 'To BringYou My Love' gives a more complex theatrical variety of emotions to deal with. Bringing It All Back Home is one of the genuine, no question Must Own Bob Dylan records. It is his first "electric" album (although the final four tracks - Mr Tambourine Man, Gates Of Eden, It's Alright Ma I'm Only Bleeding and It's All Over Now Baby Blue - are all acoustic), it's stacked from one end to the other with some of the most recognisable, memorable and exhilarating of Dylan's compositions (no album that starts with Subterranean Homesick Blues and ends with It's All Over Now Baby Blue can be anything BUT a Must Own, surely), it's ridiculously exciting (if Maggie's Farm doesn't get you fired up of a morning or evening or afternoon, little will) and, lyrically, is never for a moment anything less than awe-inspiring.
Of the electric tracks, most hover around the filthy blues of the aforementioned Subterranean Homesick Blues ...
