Love it or hate it, the music of the 1970s had a huge impact on much of today's music. I ... more
Love 1970s is a fairly comprehensive overview of the key songs, from different genres, that were on the radio as long as 30 years ago. There are some fine funk-soul numbers that have stood the test of time either by way of nostalgic discos or killer riffs that have been plundered since. Isaac Hayes' "Theme from Shaft" makes a welcome appearance with it's wah-wah guitar-slapping intro, as does Sly Stone's "Family Affair". Representing the rockers are Wings with the Bond theme "Live and Let Die" and the insanely theatric Queen with their calling card "Killer Queen". In the glam corner we have the fantastic T-Rex boogieing along with "Jeepster" and the mighty Slade's "Coz I Luv U". A sad omission is punk which was a major movement at the time so it's surprising that the Sex Pistols don't put in an appearance. Aside from that, this is a great way to own some music of the decade as was I Love 1980s a must-have previously. --Georgina Collins

Advantages: Everything about it. Disadvantages: It has'nt got any.
Yet another brilliant and organised cd from a member of the extremely talented and THE origanal boyband The Osmonds, yes its the origanal idol from the 70's Donny Osmond with his latest album, Love Songs Of The 70's. This album is packed full of songs origanally from the 70's but has been given a more modern feel to it. In my opinion Donny has probably done the songs as good as, or even in some cases better than the origanal person who sung the songs! I highly recommend this cd to any one who are thinking about buying this album, or if they have only just heard of it. I also recommend this to people who are fans of the songs in this modern take to some classic songs. ...
Advantages: Fab price; Far better tracklisting than most 70s compilations; Loads of classics! Disadvantages: The odd 'filler track' and uninspiring liner notes.
for any fan of 70s nostalgia. The tracklisting boasts classic disco from Chic with their funky debut 'Dance, Dance, Dance' (distinctively unique when compared to their later hits 'Le Freak' and 'Good Times'); Earth, Wind & Fire's spectacular 'Fantasy' with Philip Bailey's distinctive vocals; the million selling 'Brown Girl in The Ring' from Boney M (yes, the original 1978 version, complete with all the cheese); Andrew Gold's 'Never Let Her Slip Away' which has to be one of the best love songs from the 70s; Ian Dury's 1979 number 1 hit 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' and even Sarah Brightman's camp disco edged 'I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper.' For those unfamiliar with Sarah Brightman's early material, this is well worth a listen - extremely kitsch but infectiously catchy. To add to this double top winning formula, the first of two Darts ...
Advantages: The 6 number 1 records Disadvantages: The rest of the tracks are rubbish
. Finally after 7 tracks we get something from the 70's! From 1974 it was #3 in the UK but only #4 in the US R&B Charts despite being classed as a soul song, so yes it was a hit but no it wasn't disco.
8. Going Back To My Roots - Odyssey. From 1981 and it was more popular in the UK than anywhere else as it was #4, its best in America was #55 on the US Dance Charts. What you might not know (and I certainly didn't until today) was theirs was a cover version of Lamont Doziers 1977 funk original. Oh and his version is better than theirs.
9. So Many Men So Little Time - Miquel Brown. From 1983 and produced by Ian Levine, the same guy who wrote and produced High Energy. This track was actually the 1st creation in the HI-NRG club music genre made in an attempt to prove disco wasn't dead. According to Ian Levines Youtube entry it was #1 pop in ...
