Advantages: Glossy shiny straight hair Disadvantages: Very very expensive
I have a wonderful friend, Gillan (we call her Tilly though – no real reason but it suits!), and she is a hairdresser. She’s self employed and because of this l am in an amazingly unique position in that l get my hair done for free – how cool!
Now l have shoulder length, dark, straightish hair. When its blow dried correctly (that is by someone who knows what they are doing ie not me!) my hair sits poker straight.
Recently, l was off on a trip to New York and my wonderful friend loaned me her GHD ceramic hair straightening irons. Usually, if you were to purchase a pair from your salon or via the net you would find your wallet anything up to £100 lighter – with the cheapest l have seen them being £80. A goggle search on the net will bring you thousands of suppliers of the GHD products on line. I cannot ...
Advantages: Cheap, easy to use, look good Disadvantages: You could put your finger through them if you aren't careful
we have been stuck with! After queueing for yonks in Argos, they handed me a lightweight package with 3 flat lampshades inside it. I was a bit dubious about it, as they didn't look the best thing in the world, but nevertheless we took them home.
I unwrapped them from the usual yards and yards of cellophane you get with these things. There was an instruction sheet showing you how to assemble them (although you could easily do so without the aid of this!), 3 flat, unassembled lampshades and 3 metal rectangular shaped things. I had a look at each shade and decided just to assemble all of them at once. To assemble, simply insert the metal shape into the paper shade. There are 2 metal holes for the ends to go into at one end of the shape, so put the metal in there, and pull the paper shade up so you can get it over the other side. Done ...
Advantages: Giving a disadvantaged child a decent shot at life and helping their community Disadvantages: Feeling guilty that I can only afford to sponsor one
I decided to sponsor a child once I could afford it ages ago, when I was still at school. I'd read articles in magazines about how rewarding other people have found sponsoring and I've always wanted to give it a shot. So once I got a full time job (just under 3 years ago) I went to the World Vision website (www.worldvision.org.uk) and signed up to sponsor a child in the thirdworld.
ABOUT WORLD VISION
Worl Vision is a Christian charity, but helps people irrespective of their beliefs. I am not Christian and have never felt pressured by World Vision - the Christmas cards they produce for people to send to their sponsors are not overtly religious and they don't send you religious propaganda.
It receives funding from both the UK government and the EU, but most of its funding comes from voluntary sources, including nearly 70 ...

Album Notes
1977's 96 DEGREES IN THE SHADE was Third World's US breakthrough album. Released at the height of American interest in reggae, the album also happens to be considerably more pop-oriented than the group's earlier excursions. From this point on, this Kingston-based group pulled off the tricky balance of roots reggae, Rasta proselytizing, and R&B-based pop song structures better than just about anyone, with the possible exception of Michael Rose-era Black Uhuru. The title track, concerning the emancipation of the American slaves, is one of the group's most popular songs, and was a mainstay of its live set for the rest of its career. While not everything on the album is equal to that particular triumph, the quietly seething "Human Market Place" and "Third World Man" are among the group's most powerful songs.
