primarily forJesus Christ Superstar, he managed to write this dramatic, tuneful, occasionally powerful religious work. Although Lloyd Webber takes some liberties with the text and organization of the traditional Requiem mass, the result is a unified and finely crafted composition. There are exciting moments in the "Dies irae" and in the "Lacrymosa", where voices and orchestra are most effectively used to convey the desperate yet hopeful feeling of the text. This work isn't performed much these days in its entirety, but, as in many of Lloyd Webber's musicals, it produced a "hit" tune--the "Pie Jesu"--whose popularity alone could have kept the composer living comfortably for the rest of his life.--David Vernier

Advantages: Interesting, beautifull, well written Disadvantages: Bad choice of soloists
...Webber has written. It is a relatively short piece, only 45 minutes long (NOT as the CD discription says, 1h 45min!!), written for chamber orchestra, organ, SATB choir and tenor, soprano and treble soloists. It uses the well known texts of the Requiem mass. I find the music beautifull in a haunting way.
The music os mainly classical, but bears a modern touch, which is refreshing. The music is reasonably easy to sing for a choral singer, which ... ...uses a boy choir and the soloist Placido Domingo (tenor), Sarah Brightman (soprano) and Paul Miles-Kingston. To me, the soloist are the weakest part of the recording. Placido Domingos voice is to heavy to manage the fast Hosanna, Sara Brightman simply can't tone down her vibrato enough and Paul Miles-Kingston is slightly out of tune at times. This means the recording doesn't really make the music justace.

Advantages: Beautifully Sung Disadvantages: Her choice of song may change
One Saturday evening towards the end of 2002, I was making a cup of coffee in the kitchen, when I heard this amazing voice coming from the TV next door. The voice belonged to a woman who was singing “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and it sounded fantastic! I rushed next door to see who it was, and found that it was Charlotte Church, who was being interviewed by Michael Parkinson! This was the first song I had ever heard her sing which was not operatic or classical, and I was really impressed. So when my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I had no trouble asking for “Prelude” her latest album. I shall now endeavour to give my opinions on each track and the album as a whole.
Pie Jesu - from Requiem by Andrew LloydWebber
This is one of her most famous songs, and is lovely to listen to. This was made ...
Advantages: A beautiful collection of songs Disadvantages: One of two lower quality tracks
from her first four album releases, with the added bonus of some previously unreleased tracks, it was one that I was sure would be far too bland and uninteresting to hold my attention for more than a millisecond. You see, I like music to make the blood pump through my veins and get the adrenalin rushing around my body, and Charlotte Church and her opera have never ranked in my top 100 to do this! It is an amazing feat that at the tender age of 17, she has amassed enough material to provide us with a greatest hits compilation, and initially I thought that there would be half of the tracks which would be instantly recognisable, but the other half would probably be sub standard. Was I right? Let's see......
Not surprisingly, a firm favourite, and dependable track is the opener. 'Pie Jesu (From Requiem)' was composed by Andrew LloydWebber ...
