Album Notes: Soundgarden: Chris Cornell (vocals, guitar); Kim Thayil (guitar); Ben Shepherd, Hiro Yamamoto (bass); Matt Cameron (drums, percussion).
Album Reviews: Spin (1/98, p.113) - 6 (out of 10) - "...The post-break-up, best-of A-SIDES boasts the same heft, drama, and sex drive that convinced alternative-rock fans that Soundgarden were an acceptably ironic version of heavy metal; but it also suggests that they were too much of a retro hybrid to ever create a world of their own..."
Advantages: Choice selections of the best tracks. Disadvantages: Lack of "Superunknown" from Superunknown
...This CD holds the most awesome tracks from Soundgarden's albums - all in a specially nice sounding order, which flow to each other with great ease. For the first time Soundgarden fan, it is a great introduction, and for the die hard fan, a must for your collection. A great bargain - over 70 mins long, nice cover and inlay with a little speech about Soundgarden. One of the finest bands ever (and actually my favorite) will surely amaze everyone with their melodic blissful tracks, haunting lyrics and powerful riffs. The sound quality is great, and this offering is certainly one you need to get hold of!...

Advantages: Chris Cornells enormo voice Disadvantages: Some classics missing from Louder Than Love
...Seattle's Soundgarden were a tremendous band. A&M went and did the decent thing and released a compilation of Chris Cornell and co's single releases, hot on the news that the band were no more.

Coming shortly after their demise, A-Sides is a fitting testimony to a monumental band (undoubtedly the original mainstays of grunge), who never quite got the recognition...

Overall I would say that this album is more of an experimental side of the band trying to get its foot in the shoe that would eventually bring them to the band that they finally became. The songs produced on this album were not overly amazing (as Soundgarden came to be) but they were still good.
The Budget for this album was low and as such the production was not amazing quality but it somehow...
