Additional notes
Album Notes: This set contains the A and B sides (as referenced in the album title) of most of Family's single releases. Family traveled an incredible distance over the four years covered here, 1969 to 1973 (a time period that also covers the public lifespan of the band). There are powerful, flat-out rockers ("Boom Bang"), boozy jams ("Sweet Desiree"), and even folkish balladry ("My Friend The Sun"). While Family charted in their native United Kingdom, they never cracked the American market--which, unfortunately, left them in an untenable business situation. Roger Chapman's impassioned sandpaper vocals, wedded to guitarist Charlie Whitney's pop smarts made for an arresting songwriting and performing duo, and when the pair disbanded Family (and went on to form Streetwalkers) they left a legacy of superb albums. This set of singles is a fine place to start exploring this outstanding band.
...Their Finest Album? Many people would say so, unlike normal albums there are no dodgy tracks that maybe should have been left off. The 1st song on the album is Acquiesce the B-side to Some Might Say. A truly rocking song. Another track is Rockin'Chair the B-side to Roll With It which blows the A-side out of the water, In my opinion the best Oasis song...ever! Song 10 is Half The World Away, the theme song to the BBC comedy The Royle Family. The album ends with the song Noel thinks is the best he has ever written, The Masterplan. What a beautiful song. Why these songs were B-sides we will never know but they are better than the A-sides of any other band of the 90s...

Advantages: More Great Songs both Live and in the Studio, proof that U2 could cut it with the best Disadvantages: None
...This album cam after U2's mega breakthroughs of "THe Unforgettable Fire" and "The Joshua Tree". It was accompanied by a film that caused a lot of ill will as the band came across as pompous and pretentious.
After the stadium rock of the previous albums this was a "back to the roots" excercise in which U2 toured America to discover their R'n'B and Soul influences. The album is part live and part studio and contains both old and new material.
The first single from the album was the incendiary "Desire", three chords, and three minutes of blistering rock, proving the band needed nothing but the absolute basics to sound absolutely awesome.
The album opens with a live cover of the Beatles "Helter Skelter" which is every bit as frightening as the original, especially with its associations with the Manson "family". This segues...

Advantages: 14 good tracks at very cheap price, Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
...For a B-side album costing me just £7.99, on CD, it is probably the best value album I have ever bought. And the tracks on it are pretty goo too. 14 tracks at that price is great, b-sides or not. I never even heard of it until 2000 anyway. It's good because it gives you a full list inside of the songs, the lyrics and even the song that it is a b-side of. Many of the songs on there are like the old style Oasis, good clean Rock'n'Roll. Quite a few of the songs on the album are sung by Noel Gallagher as well as Liam. Being made in 1998, it has b-sides from 14 Oasis songs up until All around the world was released as a single (the b-side to that is not on there) All the b-sides to their number 1 singles are on there though. The masterplan is an actual song aswell. On the album is the theme tune to the Royle Family which is called...
