Aaliyah’s third self-titled album was released not too long ago. I purchased it a while back and loved listening to it. She had definitely progressed since “age ain’t nothing but a number” and “one in a million”. This album is much more chic and classy unlike the ‘teenage’ Aaliyah albums. This album is her first in four years. It is much more different and has a wider range of music genres.
Her dear old friend Timbaland produced the album. Some of the songs are written by Static from playa and Missy Elliot.
Each song is different to the next, which is really good, as there is a song for everyone on this album.
The cover shows Aaliyah in a nice top with lovely hair. She looks very chic. The photos inside are very nice also. It is like a booklet and has 6 pictures and 1 larger picture. There is also information inside about every track, which is useful if you want to know who wrote the song or who features on it. Also there is another cover on top of the case, which is made of card, and it has a picture of the famous animated Aaliyah.
Here’s a list of the tracks on the album plus my opinion of them.
WE NEED A RESOLUTION – A very different song. I love this song and the lyrics are pretty good. The music in the background has a bit of a spooky feel, don’t ask me why I think that but hey I like it! The beats on this track are really good too. It’s a catchy song but be warned you’ll be rapping along to Timbaland’s rap!
LOOSE RAP – To me loose rap sounds a bit too poppy for Aaliyah but that doesn’t mean I don’t like it. It is really different to the other songs and I really like it. Static from Playa features on this track, he also wrote the song. It has nice beats and is quite a mellow song.
ROCK THE BOAT – The song that was meant to be Aaliyah’s latest single is a great song with cheeky lyrics. It has brilliant beats and I love the music. The lyrics are good even though they’re a little cheeky, it’s still a fab song. It reminds me of her death though which is a downside to the song.
MORE THAN A WOMAN – This song for some reason reminds me a bit of “We need a resolution” but is still quite different. It’s a great song and I love the lyrics. The beats are good and Aaliyah performed this song really well. Maybe one of my favourite songs off the album.
NEVER NO MORE – A nice slow song, which is really mellow, it has a great feel to it and is definitely a song to chill out too. It has great lyrics and is quite slow and romantic. I like the beats as well.
I CARE 4 U – This song is just so cool, it’s slow and the beats are slow. Aaliyah’s voice is perfect on this song. The lyrics are really good too. You actually want to listen to the words because they are so nice and romantic. I haven’t heard a song by Aaliyah that sounds like this. I could listen to this song over and over because you can chill out to it anytime. It really is a lovely song.
EXTRA SMOOTH – This is a slightly faster tune with excellent heavy beats. I love the tune and the words are good also. I especially love the chorus and is very catchy. It’s very different.
READ BETWEEN THE LINES – The piano intro is nice and the beats are really good on this track. The lyrics are good and this song has a kind of Latino vibe about it. It’s a nice song to listen to and is quite romantic.
U GOT NERVE - A fast up beat song with very heavy beats. It has a nice vibe about it, and the beats and music definitely suit the lyrics. The song has a very catchy chorus.
I REFUSE - The intro to this song has a very sad vibe about it. The piano in the background when Aaliyah sings is really slow and sad. The lyrics are good and the piano adds a nice simple touch to the song. When the beats are added in the chorus the song sounds even better. The best part about this song is that there is more singing than music.
IT’S WHATEVER – A very slow intro with a nice piano touch in the background. The song has good beats, which make the song sound less sad which is the kind of vibe you get from the intro. I love this song because it is quite slow and romantic and the piano sounds really nice.
I CAN BE – from the intro you think it’s a slow song but it’s very fast with heavy beats, which sound really good on the track. The guitar also sounds really good on this track and adds a fast touch to Aaliyah’s singing. The lyrics are good and this song is really catchy and I just love the guitar and the beats.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS – Quite a fast song with good lyrics. It has nice music in the background and the beats are quite fast but soft.
WHAT IF – This song has slightly strange intro and you can’t really tell if it’s a slow or fast song, but it is a fast track, which has elements of rock music in it. A bit of a wild song to blast for definite. It has a lot of the guitar in it and Aaliyah sounds good singing this song and it is very different to her usual R’n’b tracks.
TRY AGAIN – This song was Aaliyah’s come back single and probably her biggest hit, a classic for me. This song has excellent beats and is very catchy. It was on the soundtrack for her debut movie “Romeo must die”. It got to number 5 in the UK charts and also won lots of awards. Her voice sounds brilliant on this track.
MESSED UP – A bonus track on selected CD’s. A nice track which kind of sounds digital! Its fast and the beats are really good, it isn’t as catchy as the other songs but is still quite good. I like it but it isn’t a favourite.
This was Aaliyah’s last album and it was a brilliant one at that. The songs were definitely much more different to her previous albums. This album has definitely shown her voice had progressed and her musical style had also changed. She was always known to experiment with different music styles and she did with her brilliant last album.
Timbaland produced song brilliant tracks and Static from playa wrote some excellent songs.
Her unique style will always live on, and her fans like myself will always appreciate her brilliant music and voice. This was a great last album but she had a lot more to give...
Advantages: great music, great beats, great singing Disadvantages: none
Aaliyah has always been a very successful r'n' b singer, she had been singing ever since she was 15 and always did well. The recent tradgedy of her death still shocks me when I think of it I think it is one of the worst things to happen in the music industry in ages. Aaliyah has always been a glamorous girl with a great voice and good friends with Timbaland and Missy Elliott. This album is Aaliyah's third and last but not exactly a terrible album ... ...Before her death Aaliyah was not only just doing well with her singing but also her acting, being in Queen of the Damned which is out soon, also she was chosen for The Matrix but unfortunately couldn't do it because she didn't get enough done before the accident. The song which got her most known in the UK was Try Again which was the song she did for her film Romeo Must Die. This album has the sngles 'We Need A Resolution', 'Try Again' and her most ...

Advantages: EVERY TRACK IS UNIQE, TIMBALAND BEATS, AALIYAHS VOICE Disadvantages: WISH THERE WAS MORE FROM AALIYAH
...The album titled "Aaliyah" by Aaliyah was originally released in early 2001 (before her death), and included most of the songs in the new version, except one extra bonus track (Messed up) and a DVD of some of her best music videos.
The new version released late 2001 or early 2002, is a great ending to a only began career, with every track truelly breath-taking, the song writting is great..matched by the cutting edge music production by Timbaland ... ...but once listening to an aaliyah interview, she said the song is fun revenge like song to the haters, to the people who though she wasnt good enough always talking rubbish, "hint loose rap".
Rock the boat: This was the last video she ever shot for a song, and the video is truelly beautifull, and so is that track..its a slow but sexy seduction track...great sexy vocals...just illustrates how she could change her style of voice to suite the different ...

...have a very different style. Aaliyah herself dedicated this mother to the memory of her grandmother. This album succeds her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, which was leaded by R. Kelly, and her second album, in which she pioneered the industry, with songs such as "One In A Million", also the title of this album, which was leaded by Timbaland. In between her second and third album, she had a number of hits, including Are You That Somebody? ... ...and innovative. Which it is. Aaliyah herself said it isn't the most commercial single she could have chose, but she wanted to be herself on this album, the reason for choice of this as the first single. This track features Aaliyah's vocals at her best, backed by a rap by Timbaland. You could describe the sound as Indian, but is definitely original, and well-produced, in Timbalands usual style, and is a very upbeat RnB tempo. A strong contendor for ...

...part to jumping on the Aaliyah bandwagon AFTER her tragic death, but there's a couple of things I must say in my defence:
1. Although she was seen as a superstar in the States, she wasn't quite as well known over here. Therefore, I had known OF her since she had first came out, but never really knew what she sang. She didn't really get a lot of mainstream exposure over here and I had only really got into the whole r & b genre of music a couple of ... ...me to just how talented Aaliyah was. To the point where I actually went and bought other albums, containing NO songs that I had ever heard. But, as far as I'm concerned this is the best one.

We Need A Resolution: This song features Timbaland and for some reason reminds me of "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake. I think this is not just Timbaland's presence which leads me to this ...

...the rather shocking news about Aaliyah a couple of days back, I should write an opinion on herself as a tribute in some kind of way.
For anyone that doesen't know, Aaliyah was an R&B artist who had a one hit wonder with 'Try Again' last year, but she had been professionally singing as well as dancing for many years, her acting talents were also very good and she was about to start an acting career by starring in the sequel to 'The Matrix', 'The ... ...aboard.
I only knew Aaliyah from her brilliant R&B hit 'Try Again'. That is how I recognised her. She had however made and produced many songs before that time too. She had even had many sucessful albums. Her latest album has just been released recently and that was sure to be and still might be a great success. Many people had also heard that she was about to really kick start her acting career by starring in 'The Matrix II' ~ I was personally ...

Advantages: Brilliantly Talented Artist, R&B, Soul & Hip-Hop In A Near Perfect Blend. Disadvantages: Hard To Find Any, In My Opinion, There Could Have Been Different Songs.
Ultimate Aaliyah is the final production from Aaliyah Dana Haughton, who was lost tragically on Saturday, August 25th, 2001.
As she was and still is my favourite artist of all time, im most probably biased in writing this review, but I shall try & put all views across as best i can.
Aaliyah was undoubtably a huge talent & im sure she was destined to go far, I believe that she could & would have been one of the biggest & most reconisable stars on the planet, on par with the likes of Madonna, 50 Cent or Britney Spears. She was taken from us at the young age of just 22, she had already had amazing success in that short time, she had released two studio albums, stared in two box office movies, 'Romeo Must Die' & 'Queen Of The Damned', she had also been cast to play a significant role in 'The Matrix Reloaded'. Aaliyah was the niece ...

When I first heard Aaliyah?s hit, 'Try Again', I couldn't wait to get my hands on this, her 3rd album. It's a more mature album and shows off her fantastic voice even better than before. 'One in a Million' was a great album but the variety on this is better, eg, r'n'b tracks like ...
Advantages: features old tracks and song that have not been released Disadvantages: did not feature the track age aint nothing but a number
i am a really, really big fan ofd aaliyah. i think that her music is outstanding and she is a deep, soulful person., her music shows you who she is. the music is normally made by timberland and missy elliot. there are tracks like "if your girl only knew", "one in a million, "i miss you" and so on. you get three disks. the first one is all the old songs from her albums like one in a million, aaliyah, and i miss you. the second disk is made up of songs from missy elliot and aaliyah, remixes and songs from the film romeo must die. and the third disk is a dvd the has interviews with aaliyah, puff daddy, missy elliot and family. ...
Initial pressings of AALIYAH contain the hidden bonus track, "Messed Up," which follows "What If." Personnel includes: Aaliyah, Static (vocals); Timbaland (rap vocals); J "Rockstar" Dub (various instruments, programming); Rapture, E. Seats (various instruments); Sean Cruse (guitar); Black Orchestra (strings); Ron Blake (horns); Renzo Pryor (keyboards). Producers: Timbaland, Rapture, E. Seats, Bud'da, J "Rockstar" Dub. Engineers include: Jimmy D, Acar Keys, Michael Conrader. AALIYAH was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. "Rock The Boat" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "More Than A Woman" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Aaliyah's self-titled third album comes some five years after her sophomore effort ONE IN A MILLION. . The singer has obviously put her time out of the spotlight to good use. She's joined here by a few old friends, including Timbaland (a co-producer of her previous album who also shares some production credits here). For the most part this is a downtempo set, typified by the Missy Elliot-penned "I Care 4 U," a slice of old-school R&B that displays Aaliyah's sultry, fragile vocals to good advantage, and the Latin-inflected "Read Between the Lines." There's more depth to Aaliyah than her stock diva cover photos might suggest, as evidenced by the ambitious opus "I Refuse," which brings all the contradictions of a contemporary relationship into sharp relief, and the end-of-the affair "Those Were the Days," the lyrical and musical content of which reveal the singer's darker, more interesting side.
