I originally bought both albums at the same time in HMV. It was a buy one, get the other one for a couple of pounds type of deal, and although I wouldn't have bought this album normally, I thought "Why not?" and coughed up the extra couple of quid.
"More ABBA Gold" was released after the huge success of "ABBA Gold". The only problem was ... ...contains a lot of good ABBA songs, and to be honest a lot of them are better than the ones on "ABBA Gold". After my last op on "ABBA - Gold" I thought that I'd better write an op about its sister album "More ABBA Gold".
The only problem was that they had put all of the best known songs onto the first album, which in turn meant that this album didn't generate anywhere like the number of sales that "Gold" did. The album itself contains a lot of good ABBA songs, and to be honest a lot of them are better than the ones on "ABBA Gold". Unfortunately, because it doesn't contain any of the songs that I know and love, it rarely gets played.
The songs on this album are in general a lot slower and more melencholy than the ones on "Gold", and are very moving at times. Looking at the booklets for both albums, you can see that the songs on this album are, in general, later than those on "ABBA Gold", which leads to a far more grown up feeling album.
The tracks that you get on the album are:
1: Summer Night City 2: Angeleyes 3: The Day Before You Came 4: Eagle 5: I Do. I Do. I Do. I Do. I Do. 6: So Long 7: Honey Honey 8: The Visitors 9: Our Last Summer 10: On & On & On 11: Ring Ring 12: I Wonder (Departure) 13: Lovelight 14: Head Over Heels 15: When I Kissed The Teacher 16: I Am The City 17: Cassandra 18: Under Attack 19: When All Is Said And Done 20: The Way Old Friends Do
The album weighs in at just over 1 hour and 13 minutes.
My only really problem with this album (and with ABBA in general) is their insistence on using repeated words in their song titles. It just really gets on my wick.
When all is said and done, this is a good album, and I should listen to it more often.
Advantages: Nice sound quality. The best advantage is being with Abba. Disadvantages: Maybe the producers make more synthesis with Abba Gold.
Abba is my one of the favourite groups since I was child.I like their lyric voices and I admire their professional work style. They know how to make their music speak to every ages of different people. When you hear their song sometimes you can't hold yourself and you begin dancing and sometimes you begin crying. When the album Abba Gold published I was very happy and I went to go buy for it.In the album you can discover many premium hits of Abba. But ... ...premium as the album Abba Gold.Only the songs Cassandra,Summer Night city,Angel Eyes and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do.Maybe if the producers made more synthesis of this two album they would sold "More Abba Gold" to most people. But maybe they didn't think that this album could sell itself alone from "Abba Gold".
I advice to all Abba fans this album but if you make a first meet with Abba I advice you to buy the first greatest hits "Abba Gold".

Advantages: Beautiful, melodic pure pop Disadvantages: Another missed opportunity to include "Just Like That"
The follow up to ABBA GOLD is, as the name says, MORE ABBA GOLD. However there's a lot more styles and contrasts up for the listener as the Scandinavian foursome bring us closer and closer into an increasinly intimate circle.
The album starts with the sudden bang and hedonistic feel of "Summer Night City" but be warned, dear reader, this isn't going to be a happy, clappy, wave your hands in the air and sing-a-long album.
The complexities of the ... ...feel some guilt for making ABBA the huge international icons that they were / are. Surely we'd all then understand why the most repeated words in "The Visitors" are "cracking up".
The lines which stand out most though, and which haunt me whenever I listen, come from two of the later songs. The first is the aforementioned "Under Attack" with both Agnetha and Frida declaring: "Won't somebody please have a heart? Come and rescue me now 'cos I'm falling ...

Advantages: Pieces of perfect 70s pop Disadvantages: Some less-than-great songs, and some of them sound dated
...album gives you all the Abba you will need. All the hits, and all the other songs you know, even if they weren't hits.
However, taken on its own, "Abba - More gold" is undeniably a second-best Abba 'greatest hits' collection. It is just nowhere near as good as Abba Gold.
There are certainly some great songs on this collection, but the hits here are mainly from either the beginning of their career (Ring Ring and I do, I do, I do, I do, I do) or ... ...I have mixed feelings about Abba on this one!
Some of the later songs, I have to say, don't do a great deal for me. I had even forgotten that "Head over Heels" was a single, and listening to it now it sounds quite pedestrian - and outdated. I am reminded of the Thompson Twins' "We are detective" - but Abba released "Head over heels" a year before, though. The Brotherhood of Man and Bucks Fizz are often quoted as being imitators of Abba, but I would ...

Advantages: Goodies galore Disadvantages: One or two fillers
"Abba Gold" was packed to the rafters with such goodies that, unless you're really cynical, it was inevitable that there had to be a Volume 2. This does include the 'not so greatest' hits, as after all every UK No. 1 was on the first album, but that only means that the singles on here didn't chart so highly, it's no reflection on their quality. In fact the 20 tracks you'll find here (which include a few album cuts as well as singles) tend to be played ... ...they are that much fresher and you might end up playing them at home more often. The best-known are "Summer Night City", "Angeleyes" (which was one half of a double A-side), and the jangly "Ring Ring", the earliest song of the lot and a 1973 Eurovision entry for the group - co-written by no less than Neil Sedaka. "Honey Honey", another early number, achieved success as a Top 10 hit for the duo Sweet Dreams (whatever happened to them?), but the original ...

Album Notes
ABBA: Bjorn Ulvaeus (vocals, guitar); Benny Andersson (vocals, keyboards); Anni Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Faltskog (vocals). Additional personnel: Lasse Wellander (guitar). Producers: Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus. Includes liner notes by John Tobler. Digitally remastered by Michael B. Tretow. A sequel to 1994's best-selling ABBA GOLD, MORE ABBA GOLD contains 20 more of the Swedish foursome's best work. Unlike the singles-only GOLD, MORE GOLD mixes singles, including the band's first hit, 1973's "Ring Ring," with album tracks like "When I Kissed the Teacher" and "I Wonder (Departure)," throwing in the previously-unreleased "I Am the City" as a bonus. Two tracks--"Eagle" and "The Visitors"--are present in rare edited mixes, and another, "Lovelight," is appealingly remixed. While perhaps not as perfect an introduction to the magic of ABBA as GOLD, MORE ABBA GOLD is an indispensable addition to the collection of any neophyte ABBA fan.
