Together with "Abba gold", this album gives you all the Abba you will need. All the hits, and all the other songs you know, even if they weren't hits. However, taken on its own, "Abba - More gold" is undeniably a second-best Abba 'greatest hits' collection. It is just nowhere near as good as Abba Gold. There are certainly some great songs on this collection, but the hits here are mainly from either the beginning of their career (Ring Ring and I do, I do, I do, I do, I do) or the towards the end (Summernight City, Angel Eyes, Under attack) - the lesser hits, we can safely say. Personally, I'm a fan of early Abba. I absolutely love "Ring Ring", and I think "I do, I do, I do, I do, I do" is probably my favourite of all their songs. Wonderful tune, easy to sing, a simple pop song, in fact. Mind you, I am sure it must have influenced Mike Batt and started the whole Wombles thing, so I have mixed feelings about Abba on this one! Some of the later songs, I have to say, don't do a great deal for me. I had even forgotten that "Head over Heels" was a single, and listening to it now it sounds quite pedestrian - and outdated. I am reminded of the Thompson Twins' "We are detective" - but Abba released "Head over heels" a year before, though. The Brotherhood of Man and Bucks Fizz are often quoted as being imitators of Abba, but I would say they were definitely not the only ones. Some of the songs on here are, frankly, not very good. "Honey honey" is my pet hate, although it's not quite as awful as the version by Sweet Dreams, which did well in the Charts. Another dated song is "The day before you came" - more for the lyrics than the music, though. (why sing about watching an episode of Dallas, anyway?) Abba at their best, produced perfect, timeless pop, and if you like them, you may well want this album, to complete your collection.
