Advantages: A composer well versed in the art of romantic music. Disadvantages: He died over 60 years ago, so no more new songs.
...GlennMiller was the best of his era, and the Moonlight Serenade was one of many popular songs of his immortalised in the movie, The GlennMiller Story.
Although many people think of the Big Band Era as hokey, squeakey clean, and outdated, the music is timeless and it can still be found selling at the record stores. Other artists are continually doing covers of his music, and every once in a while a Miller composition shows up in a movie score.
Most of Miller's music was composed for his band to play without a singer. Later, words were added to his tunes, but I think the music can stand alone on its own merit.
Moonlight Serenade, String Of Pearls, Little Brown Jug...the list goes on. And one has to wonder how Miller's music may have progressed if he were not killed in WWII. It's a shame that we'll never know....

...If you want a gr8 album for a first taste of Miller this is for YOU!
Includes nice male vocals on Elmer's Tune and A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square. Not the gr8est recordings but the sound quality is reasonable and you get all the excitement of a packed to bursting Saturday night dance club jam in the heroic 40's here!
Nice nice classic Miller songs, a surprise or two. This is a budget CD I have bought and listen to from time to time, nice and LOUD with the window down in the car! Yessir!
Definitely a CD for a Miller 'beginner', make a nice gift. Nothing special for your die-hard Miller collectors I guess, but hey:
"Listen, listen - there's a lot you're li'ble to be missin'" if you miss this one! As Elmer himself wull tell you!
Mm, just dig those deep sonorous trombone harmonies and the flutter of muted trumpets contrasting...
