...being made of this book About a Boy. The fact that Badly Drawn Boy crafted this soundtrack to such a good modern film is not suprising although it must be said that he could not have done this unless he was indeed a fan of the original book. The some times odd, quirky tracks he produced sit so well within the film that this was a marriage made in heaven and are exaccerbated by the down to earth feel of both the film and score.

Advantages: Great, refreshing album in general Disadvantages: Under-rated
...parents, no apparent friends and Will Grant in a surprisingly cool role. The film brings about laughs, sadness, and a lot of atmosphere, and the album reflects all of this perfectly.
The Soundtrack also has a lot of influence from BadlyDrawnBoy’s previous album, The Hour of Bewilderbeast (1999, XL Recordings), but also implements some new style at the same time.
As music was mainly written for the film, there are some short, instrumental songs here, but also some genuine songs that have been released as singles. The songs blend well into each other, giving a non-interrupted stream of music.
After the first classic album some fans may be a little disappointed, but most will be more than satisfied with this original album.

Advantages: Some great catchy tracks Disadvantages: The inevitable short tracks that come with a soundtrack
...Firstly, can I please ask people not to be disappointed by the tracks such as Exit Stage Right and Dead Duck and the likes because this is the unaviodable downside of a soundtrack- there are bound to be "pointless" very short pieces. The soundtrack is still well worth owning because of the meaningful tracks such as A Peak You Reach, Something To Talk About and Above You, Below Me. Not only did BadlyDrawnBoy achieve his probably aim to write songs perfectly for the film but at the same time these songs are great to listen to whether you have seen the film or not. This was my introduction to BadlyDrawnBoy and based on it I would not only encourage others to buy it but also to get some of BadlyDrawnBoy's other work.
In conclusion, for a usual album this would be very good, for a soundtrack it is the best I've heard :)...

...I bought this album the soundtrack for about a boy by badlydrawnboy after watching the film as the music was catchy.
I had never really taken notice of BDB (Badlydrawnboy) before, maybe because his music style is really of the norm.
Although this album is very enjoyable indeed the songs seem to be a mixture of country rock and really anything else that goes you may be surprised a few songs into the album.
Track 12 exit stage right" is a small piano introduction to set the unusual but great tone of this album.
Track 2 "a peak you reach" is an upbeat funky number that you can easily jig to while driving or reading, its a Beatty number with a good guitar sound entwined.
Track 3 "something to talk about" to is the diamond of the album and very original, it is catchy for a slower song and the words are thoughtful, if you have...

About A Boy (Original Soundtrack) - Badly Drawn Boy
Additional notes
Album Notes: Music composed by Badly Drawn Boy aka Damon Gough. Producers: Tim Rothrock, Badly Drawn Boy. What's a budding musical genius to do in the pent-up lull between albums? Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter Badly Drawn Boy (nee Damon Gough), in his spare time between heralded debut THE HOUR OF BEWILDERBEEST, and a follow-up to be released later in 2002, approached the filmmakers adapting Nick Hornby's acclaimed novel ABOUT A BOY about the soundtrack for the film starring Hugh Grant. There's no question to the logic of the combination as Gough's sublimely literate, disaffected yet still charmingly breezy pop music fits the story of life's apparent losers at two stages of life, one an apathetic womanizer approaching his 40s, the other a bullied misfit boy passing into his teens, between whom an unlikely friendship ensues. A folky singer/songwriter scoring songs to help set the tone of a movie about unlikely friendship could stir up memories of Cat Stevens's unreleased soundtrack for "Harold & Maude," a fair enough assessment. In a similar fashion (but in its own way), Badly Drawn Boy's take on ABOUT A BOY weaves a mournful, yet upbeat tapestry drawing from its source material while managing to enrich the story itself. There are even some pop megahit hooks such as in the rolling "Silent Sigh" and in the head-bobbing, ostensible theme song "Something To Talk About."
