Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: Nothing, unless you don't like really good unplugged music
MTV is a television music channel which started broadcasting in late 1989/early 1990. As the first of its kind, it regularly featured an 'Unplugged' session, where artists would come and perform a live acoustic set. Before long, the MTV The VeryBest Of Unplugged album was released, an its success demanded a second album to be released.
This album is the second offering from the MTV Unplugged Set. Many artists have released music that they have performed on the MTV set, but this is a compilation of some of the greatest moments in the channel's live acoustic history. There are 16 tracks on the album, including 10 which were not previously released.
These are the tracks:
1. Sting - Every Breath You Take
2. Chris Isaak - Wicked Game
3. The Cranberries - Zombie
4. REM - Imitation Of Life
5. Eric Clapton - Layla
6. Crowded House ...
Advantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs Disadvantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs messed up
. Add a few scratches and a rap and you have this
Gotta Hold Over Me - Coko. Poor song. In my opinion Coko isnt the most gifted singer and you can tell on this track. Not one of Phils greatest and not one of Coko's either
I Dont Care Anymore - Kelis. Produced by the Neptunes, this is a harsh track with an 'I Hate You So Much Right Now' shouty feel to it. You would either love or hate this
Cant Turn Back The Years - Joe. Not to disimilar to the original and it works. The best track on the album, Joes voices gives this tune so much credit. It really does work. Quality
Do You Remember - Debelah Morgan. Poor again, she has a good voice and it comes through but the production is not great and its a big let down
Against All Odds - Montell Jordan. This is worse than the Westlife version. Its just not very good
One More NIght ...
Advantages: All the good songs in one place Disadvantages: Recycled old beats
the occasional track that completely baffles the imagination, this is a welcome assorted mix.
Retailing for approximately £15.99, it is available in a blue and black box in the garage or compilation section of your local music store (available on Wsm records from Warner). The advertised ‘killer new tracks’ are good whilst not being outstanding, but at the end of the day, this album admits to being a “best of” collection, so I can’t really complain. For what it is, I give four stars: great music presented in a smooth fashion and some great memories of clubbing in the last couple of years. For full track reviews (50 tracks) see below.
