After the demise of the original Sisters of Mercy with the departure of Wayne Hussey, Craig Adams and Gary Marx the future of the band looked very bleak, and after the completion of the Sisterhood project Andrew Eldritch was to take an extended holiday that was to last for two and a half years.
After this break The Sisters were reborn in the form of Andrew Eldritch, the ever faithful Doktor Avalanche (the drum machine) and Patricia Morrison as Eldritches only human companion.
It was in September 1987 that This Corrosion, the first single off the soon to be released Floodland album was released to an ecstatic, fanatical faithful.

There are two extraordinary things about this little gem of an album. Firstly not many people know of Sister Hazel. They may recognise a song from a film perhaps but not know that it is Sister Hazel. The second and most important extraordinary thing is the uniformity of how happy and life affirming all the songs are. Even Concede which is a love ballad of sorts, as a real positive up lifting feel to it. When listening to any track on this album it is hard to feel depressed because of the intense spirit that possesses the album...

It was three and a half years after the release of this single that I learnt all the words. It was summer 1986, I was the archetypal Kevin The Teenager and was on a "sightseeing" holiday in Switzerland. The local market had one English language cassette: the soundtrack to a dire John Travolta film called Perfect and this track was on it. So I sat in the car in the car park of the hotel and played this one track over and over again. It is for this reason that I absolutely love it.
