Advantages: MacGregor's chameleon-like arrangements render every piece interesting, appealing.
Disadvantages: She remains in obscurity in the US.

...and flowing like waves. Satoh’s Buddhist-influenced pieces have a depth that often goes missing in so-called New Age music. Wonderful, meditative and calming stuff. John Cage (1912-1992) has a lighthearted, gamelan-sounding bit that lasts less than a minute and a half. His Sonata No. 5 (excerpted from Sonatas and Interludes 1946-48) is performed using a "prepared piano". What the hell is a prepared piano, you might ask? MacGregor helpfully describes it thus: "By putting bolts, screws, pieces of plastic and rubber between the strings, [Cage] transforms the piano into a lush garden of wind chimes, babbling brooks, 88 gamelan players and African xylophone." It's the same piano set-up she uses in another minimalist piece, Endgame, co-written by MacGregor with Indian Talvin Singh (b. 1970). Singh's tabla* playing is virtually a solo performance... Modest composes Musical Paintings

...Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, born in 1839, was one of a group of Russian composers known as The Five, who were dedicated to producing a distinctive Russian style of music. Among Mussorgsky’s closest friends was the archietect and painter, Victor Hartmann. Hartmann died suddenly at the age of only 39. Mussorgsky was devasted by the news of his death. The following year of 1874, he attended an exhibition of his friend’s work. Walking around the exhibition, stopping and gazing at each of the pictures was to inspire Mussorgsky to compose an evocative and masterful tribute to his friend and his aristry. Mussorgsky composed Pictures at Exhibtition as a cycle of Piano pieces illustrating ten of Hartmann’s pictures linked by a recurring theme to show the viewer moving from one painting to another. Advantages: great tracks with lots of memories
Disadvantages: Nothing we have not heard before

...I would like to start this review with afew facts about Dolly Parton for those who don't already know her and her work. Born: Dolly Rebecca Parton. Place: Sevierville, Tennessee. Date: 19 th January, 1946 She was 4th of twelve children and began performing at the age of 9, when she was appearing on the Cas Walker Show on WBIR- TV in Noxville , Tennessee. She recorded her first Album on a small label, Goldband at the age of 13 and also appeared at the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville. She is an accomplished musician, playing Guitar, banjo, autoharp , piano and drums. Also a Grammy winning, Academy Award winner, Country Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Author , actress.
