Adams: Grand Pianola Music

Advantages: Nostalgia value, varied style
Disadvantages: A few tracks not so much hits

...Dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, dead ant..... Yeh I know it's old, but so is the person I'm gonna be talking about now, and no, he's not dead either. As you might realise, I have one or two Adam & The Ants CD's in my collection, not to mention the stash of old vinyl that has sat gathering dust for simply years now. I was a big fan of Mr Ant (now the grand age of 50 - his age not mine!), back in the 80's, and although he's been long forgotten by most, I'm still what you could call a dedicated follower. It's not likely that he'll ever tour again, release new material or make many public appearances, therefore I'll have to continue to enjoy his old stuff. Advantages: strong songs
Disadvantages: could have been more varied

...Bryan Adams has been making albums for an age now and you worry if anything he releases will represent anything significantly different to warrant a purchase. This album is certainly more of the same from Adams, and as such nothing really stands out but all the songs are good and easy to listen to. The very familiar soft rock style is evident throughout, but Adams does add a greater element of pop making a lot of the tunes that more catchier for example in the excellent ?When You?re Gone? with Mel C. There are also a fair number of slower moving ballads in line with Adams previous work such as ?Cloud Number Nine? and the soothing ?Inside Out.? This is another good album from Adams, not outstanding, but he shows that he still knows how to make music.... Read review

Advantages: All his best work
Disadvantages: Too polished at times

...Bryan Adams has a broad appeal. This compilation highlights the two sides to his music. He can play hard rock or he can sing mellow ballads and pop. He has the knack for writing commercial songs that get him into the charts, while still keeping his rock audience happy with the more raunchy tracks. His raw, gutsy vocals sound equally at home with rock or pop. He works with quality musicians and produces a polished product- maybe a little too polished at times. That aside, Bryan Adams has worked hard for his success and has produced some great music over the years. It's all on here. "Summer of '69", "Run to You", "Cuts like a knife", "(Everything I do) I do it for You", and more. Great songs, great artist.... Read review
