Advantages: Bowie at his creative best. Disadvantages: Sounds a little dated now.
...Cited by punks as one of the few artists they respected, Bowie released this tribute to George Orwell's "1984" in 1974, soon after jettisoning his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. Opening with "Future Legend", the LP is set in some undefined future world peopled with freaks and mutants: Diamond Dogs, Halloween Jack, Big Brother, etc. In this post-nuclear wasteland Bowie lays down the tracks for a future world: the majesty of "Sweet Thing", the paranoid love song "Rock 'N' Roll With Me", and the hit single "Rebel Rebel" all go to prove that this was Bowie at his peak - remember him this way....

Advantages: She's a rainbow is a wonderful song Disadvantages: A bit twiddly and self-absorbed in parts

Advantages: Powerful, dark. A definate grower! Disadvantages: Lacks an immediate punch
...This Is Hardcore was released back in 1998 to an Indie scene which had long since grown tired of "Britpop". The album was almost immediatly written off and criticised for failing to deliver the same quirky pop classics which had appeared on its fore runners.

Songs such as "Help The Aged", which were derided as Pulp-by-numbers, take on a brooding majesty when heard in context. For anyone who appreciates quality and depth in their music, This is Hardcore will continue to please and to terrify, long after "Common People" has lost it's sheen....
