Advantages: Bowie's Late 70's High Watermark Disadvantages: Weeping Wall
...Artist: David Bowie
Album: Low
Original Release: January 1977
David Bowie's "Low" is one of the best albums in my record collection. I listen to it no more than half a dozen times a year - yet each time I revisit it (normally late night, post-pub) I am always surprised at how energised and inspired it makes me feel. Despite the fact that both myself and one of my bestest mates love this album to bits, many critics and Bowie fans alike hate this album with a passion and see it as a turning point - "it' was recorded around the time Bowie disappeared up his own rear orifice" said a northern Bowie-fan mate of mine once.
"Low" is not, I admit, everyone's cup of tea. Despite it's frequent visual appearance in a recent episode of Eastenders (the one where Janine - psycho bitch from hell - Butcher chucked out Barry - recently fell off...

Advantages: Good graphics Disadvantages: Drags on , hard to understand , poor acting
...up until the last quarter of an hour of Evan Almighty I was confused as to what was happening in the film.It was very far fetched although it came together towards the end.I would describe this film as slightly weird. When visiting the cinema , this was not my first choice , but because the film I had planned on watching was fully booked this was my only alternative.
The main Character (Evan) appeared as a mad man throughout the film.No one believed him that he had been talking to God.God had told Evan to build an ark because there was going to be a huge flood where a dam would burst. In this film Evan was potrayed as Noah.
Weird things continued to happen to Evan throughout the film , such as everytime he shaved , his beard would grow back instantly , and when he was at work wearing a suit , God was change his outfit into a robe...

Advantages: great guitar, great songs Disadvantages: none
...I bought this album on a whim, having read a paragraph about it in the paper and liking the sound of the influences that were quoted. I can honestly say it was a lucky find and a real gem.
This is Little Barrie's first album and a great debut, I don't think there's one weak track. It was produced by Edwyn Starr. I would put them more in the rock / indie / r&b category. They've supported The Bees and Paul Weller in the past to give you an idea of their style.
The songs are all very beautiful, melodic guitar, funky rhythm, slightly seedy almost. Little Barrie the lead singer (and he is little, I've seen him) has a great, powerful voice, not dissimilar to Mark Morriss of the Bluetones.
If you like good vintage guitar, slightly 60s/70s feel to your music, you won't be disappointed in this. There was a second album out earlier...
