Advantages: Diverse vocals, excellent songs Disadvantages: none
...When my friend played Miss Murder for me for the first time, I wasn't very impressed. When she gave me the album to listen to, it grew on me some. When she dragged me along to see AFI live, it blew me away.
Listening to this album after seeing the band live was a whole new experience. When you see the energy and passion that Davey Havok puts into his music then it takes on a different feel.
I think AFI sound different to any other band. They write songs with real meaning and emotion, and Davey's voice is just stunning. There is an incredible clarity and depth to the vocals that I just don't think any other band can compete with. And the lyrics are intelligent and meaningful, which to me, is a big plus.
There are some excellent songs on this album. They range from the loud and fast Nine Inch Nails cover 'Head Like...

Advantages: Beautiful and original arrangements Disadvantages: Can seem pretentious
...1967 was a first for many things... concept albums, lyrics on the sleeve, new and exciting production techniques, and of course, the first symphonic rock album. The eight songs on the album are joined together by orchestral sections, arranged and conducted by Peter Knight. Some of the sections are entirely new, but many of them reprise melodies from the band's songs on the album, giving...

Advantages: A reasonably good return to form Disadvantages: Mathew Wright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...Finally after many years of anticipation, legal wrangling, falling out with former band members (not that they were on the best of terms with some of them in the first place and learning about file management on windows Hawkwind return with a brand spanking new studio album. The expectations of this one are high, especially since they have been performing snippets from it in their live set for the past couple of years, and dam fine snippets they have been.
This is their first studio release since 1997 disappointing Distant Horizons and features guest appearances by the legendary Arthur Brown, Lene Lovich, and rather worryingly Mathew Wright. On top of that the core line up of Dave Brock (Guitar), Alan Davey (Bass) and Richard Chadwick (Drums) is augmented by Simon house (Violin, Keyboards), Jason Stuart (keyboards), former young...
