Advantages: Plenty of good soul tracks Disadvantages: A few repetitive boring tracks
Although I enjoy funkiness, I'm not someone that can listen to an album of non-stop funk, the thing that normally gets me is the tiresome lyrics - shouts of "funky" and "chicken" become quite limited after a while - the person compiling this album (Dj Shadow I believe) has done a good job as instead of just playing funk, he's sought out tracks from r&b, soul and even a bit of blues with funkiness in them than all out funk.
From the beginning this album is an upbeat and energetic album ideal for playing when say cleaning the house or something like that - hopefully encouraging you to do stuff rather than just dance though!
One of the best tracks has to be Rock Steady by Aretha Franklin and this is the top-end of the scale of the album for me - the lower being "Getting in the Corners" by the TSU Tornadoes, simple music witha bit ...
Subtitled “funk classics from sassy soul sisters” this album’s sentiment may have it’s heart in the right place, but it fails to describe the full picture here. These women are sexually, emotionally and vocally aggressive, leaving their men in no doubt as to who wears the trousers in their respective relationships. Each track here oozes raw sexuality, whether the role of the singer is that of a bored housewife (“Crumbs Off the Table”) or as sexual predator (“Your Thing Ain’t No Good Without My Thing”). The titles alone are sheer class.
Culled from the dusty vaults of WarnerBros’ legendary, bottomless soul archives this is an album of twelve virtually unknown tracks from between 1968 and 1974 performed by fourteen virtually unknown artists (honourable exception: Gladys ...
Advantages: Some of Shawn's best matches from 1996, with commentary by his lovely self Disadvantages: Only 7 matches which you may already own if a fan of 90's WWF.
't acquainted with the world of wrestling!). Although the rest of the pay per view was indeed like a funeral parlour, it would also be the burial ground for the Heartbreak Kid's career.
Or so everybody thought.
Stroll on to 2002 and Shawn's back with a new move set, that isn't quite as harsh on his previously herniated disks, and a new attitude. I was so happy to see him back when I first flicked through the TV station and it seemed as if the company could see the pound signs in each others eyes when they released Shawn Michaels: From the Vault in the late summer of 2003.
WHAT'S INCLUDED ON THE SHAWN MICHAELS FROM THE VAULT SET?
As I only have the video version of this, I can't possible comment on such important features as DVD extras. However, the fact that after five years I still haven't bothered to update my version to the DVD should ...
