It has been a dull day; so I sat at my computer and put some music on to listen to. I don’t know about you but I often put on music to reflect my mood. I choose Neil Young After the gold rush
Neil Young was born in Canada in 1945 he started playing music at school. He played in garage rock bands and played in local folk clubs. Neil Young played with Buffalo Springfield in the sixties. Then he had success playing with Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, but in 197O they split and he took up his solo career.
He has recorded about 50 Albums in his career as a musician. After the gold rush was released in September 1970. I am listening to this now. The music I would class it as country rock.
The band with Neil Young playing after the gold rush is Crazy horse
Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards) Danny Whitten (vocals, guitar) Nils Lofgren (vocals, piano) Stephen Stills (vocals) Billy Talbot, Greg Reeves (bass) Ralph Molina (drums). Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards) Danny Whitten (vocals, guitar) Nils Lofgren (vocals, piano) Stephen Stills (vocals) Billy Talbot, Greg Reeves (bass) Ralph Molina (drums).
Track 1 Tell me why. This song is sung to guitar. (Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself / When you're old enough to repay but young enough to sell?"). These are the words of the catchy chorus. This is a good song. It makes me sway from side to side on my comp chair and I am singing along quietly.
Track 2 after the gold rush. This song is sung to piano Neil young sings this with his thin reedy voice. It is quite a mournful wistful song, beautiful. Some of the words are; (There was a band playing in my head and I felt like getting high. I was thinking about what a Friend had said I was hoping it was a lie.) This song is making me feel wistful.
Track 3 Only love can break your heart. This has a real country beat to it a mournful lament with harmonies in it.
Track 4 Southern men. This song has some really strong powerful guitar and the vocals very intense
Track 5 till the morning A lighter shorter song to the piano, it lifts the tension of the previous song. I really like this song short and sweet.
Track 6 Oh lonesome me. This is a cover of a Don Gibson country song it does not sparkle like the other songs on this C D. It’s a little dull
Track 7 Don’t bring it down another song accompanied by piano makes me feel wistful. (Don't let it bring you down It's only castles burning, Find someone who's turning And you will come around) I think this is my favourite song
Track 8 Birds This is a very powerful gentle song. Again to piano
Track 9 When you dance I can really love. This is a much more cheerful song lifts the mood (Like a mountain that's growing a river that rolls, Let me come over, I know you know When you dance I can really love)
Track 10 I believe in you I believe in you is a very good song with a country feel to it. This is one of the better songs on the album. Very strong thoughtful words. (Now that you made yourself love me, Do you think I can change it in a day? How can I place you above me? Am I lying to you when I say, That I believe in you I believe in you.)
Track 11 Cripple Creek ferry. This is a short track about a ferry going across Cripple Creek. A lighter song a good one to end with it makes me want to listen to more.
I hope you enjoyed listening to Neil Young With me he sings some wistful thoughtful songs slightly sad but not sad. After the Gold rush is available from C D WOW at £6.99p
