In a world where short-lived pop melodies created by management rather than by the artists are taking over, it is a breath of fresh air to find a band whoto stick to their roots and create music with a simple yet inspiring - occassionally mellow rock vibe.

Anyone who knows Kings of Leon or who have bought their previous album, Youth and Young Manhood knows what Kings of Leon have to offer and don't need me to convince them to buy their second album. For those of you who haven't yet had the pleasure, buy this album!

Interestingly for a rock album (with a slight down home country feel to it) there is a consistently uplifting vibe to this album. I defy anyone to listen to this without finding your foot taping along or your head nodding back and forth by half way through the first song, Slow night so long.

When listening to this album, as with their first you get a sense that they went into the studio and recorded in one take - it almost has a live feel to it and this earthy simplicity goes along way to making it the great album that it is.

Each song is unique and easily identified from the previous one. My personal favourite, Taper Jean Girl is a beautiful, rythmic song with a great guitar rift to it that is guaranteed to leave you on a high. Other songs to look out for include Pistol of fire and King of the Rodeo

The singer Caleb has got a trully unusual voice which although it may not suit everyone's tastes can be truly hypnotic. He isn't afraid to explore his voice, occassionally even daring a wee yodel. This, accompanied by the great lyrics makes it impossible to be drawn to his sound.

These guys are doing what they know and love the best and the honesty of it all is clearly heard throughout the album. A great band, great songs and a great album. BUY IT!
