Wonderful!!
Review of Surfer Rosa - Pixies by Tarquin_Farquart

Advantages: Brillant songs
Disadvantages: So badly recorded it's not funny

...Surfer Rosa is my favourite Pixies release. OK, it's not as good technically as Doolittle, (in fact is one of the worst recorded things I've ever heard) but the songs still shine through - my favourites being Gigantic (sung by future Breeders singer Kim Deal under the name of Mrs John Murphy) and Where is My Mind? which showed that under all the shouting they could do a slow number. Overall though (especially when coupled with Come On Pigrim - as it is on the CD reissue) it is a very good buy - although i would recommend Doolittle if it was the first Pixies album you were thinking of buying..... This bone's got a little machine
Review of Surfer Rosa - Pixies by godspeed

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...The Pixies’ first album, although it was really only a mini-album, Come On Pilgrim can be found as part of a reissue CD coupled with the band’s second album, Surfer Rosa. This is a set that chronicles the band’s early years, and provides a cross-section of much of the Pixies’ musical styles. This record includes many songs that are considered by die-hard Pixies fans as the best Pixies material. “Gigantic”, written, not by Black Francis, but by Kim Deal’s alias. This song was released as a single (a re-recorded version), but sadly did not reach a chart position to match its songwriting genius. Also check out “Bone Machine” – a fantastic simplistic drum intro, kicking off the album, and notably “Caribou”, an incredible atmospheric song. As I have already mentioned, this album is considered the best Pixies album, but I would recommend... Read review

Vote Kinky For Govenor
Review of Independent Worm Saloon - Butthole Surfers by Champ666

Advantages: None Really
Disadvantages: Lots quite probabally

...Texas is a strange place evil lurks there in the guise of the Bushes as they are children of Satan sent to destroy all that is good an pure. It is also the home of the Butthole Surfers, 13th Floor Elevators and Kinky Freidman (1) who it could be argued are also children of Satan sent to destroy all that is good and pure. It all comes down to what goodness and purity you want to see destroyed, I'm with the latter camp myself. This album was recorded during their time with Capitol records in 1993, and is produced by former Led Zepplin Bassist John Paul Jones, probably thanks to the increased recording budget available. The title "Independent Worm Salon" Is and obvious statement about their feelings about major labels signing independent artists, but I would not say no to a big fat advance and worldwide distribution of my own music any day...
