...What ever happened to Gary Barlow. He was supposedly the talented one in Take That-lead singer, main song writer. Everyone thought he'd be the one to succeed as a solo artist. But we were all wrong. Without the personalities and heart throb status (for some anyway) of his co-members of Take That, Gary is, well, pretty forgettable. His solo releases have been mediocre and lacking the spark he had in Take That. Maybe he's just lost his motivation. ...When Take That split in 1996, Gary went on to make 2 solo albums and did a few tours, before deciding to become a full time writer (recent hits include "Guilty" by Blue). "Open Road" was the first of his 2 albums. It's probably only available second-hand or from an internet site. Here is a full track listing. 1. Love Won't Wait 2. So Help Me Girl 3. My Commitment 4. Hang On In There Baby 5. Are You Ready Now 6. Everthing I Ever Wanted 7. I Fall So Deep 8. Lay Down for Love 9. Forever Love 10. Never Know 11. Open Road 12. Always I'll go through each song one at a time. LOVE WON'T WAIT This song was written by Madonna even though she isn't credited. Shep Pettibone is mentioned as producer and writer though. It's a great catchy song - the sort of mid-tempo tunes Gary seems to find difficult to write - and it entered the charts... Read review

Advantages: 3 good singles
Disadvantages: too many mediocre songs

...I bought this one off eBay in mid 2003 for a few pence. Not really sure why I bought it I just remember the singles being listenable to from the 90s & I had a few quid in my Pay Pal account which I thought I'd spend. Upon receiving the CD I did what anyone else would do & listen to the songs I knew. Open Road, Forever Love & Love Won't Wait. It turned out that Them 3 songs would be the only 3 I'd ever listen to twice & more. I let the album play & just wasn't impressed at all. Too many similar sounding songs. I read about the first single release in the US 'So Help Me Girl' If that's an attempt to crack the US chart, maybe it should be 'So Help You Gary.'... Read review
