Akira - Various Artists

Advantages: Every track is awesome, very unique
Disadvantages: Some of the songs take a while to grow on you

...What better than a Welsh electro rapper.... well if you can call him that. Akira (born Adam Narkiewicz) is an independent rapper of Welsh upbringing. Formerly of underground rap group 'Crack Village', his debut album "When We Were Young" is a breath of fresh air amongst todays rap artists. Combining electro, rap and rock (amongst others), this album is very different to anything I had heard before. The album opener (track 2 because track 1 is a speech) "Liverpool" is a great track to open an album with. It's upbeat, catchy and has some great lyrics and music loops. When I hear albums with opening tracks as good as this I want to listen on, the disadvantage to a good opener is that the rest of the album has expectations to meet! Advantages: Many different types of rock and fantstic artists - the best of 2006 and 2007
Disadvantages: Could have more hardrock artists in and and second CD hasn't as much good artists in

...A fantastic CD with lot's of different kinds of rock. The best bands of 2006 and 2007 put in one CD. Artists like Snow Patrol, Razorlight, The Fratellies, The Arctic Monkeys, Automatic, The Ordinary Boys, The Killers, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and the list goes on. Has two CD's and has 40 tracks, 20 on each CD. Has new up coming artist such as Wolfmother. has many artists winners from the Brits: The Killers who won best national CD and best national band, The Arctic Monkeys won best British CD and best British band. The Fratellis won an award too and many more Brit award winning artists. A fantastic purchase well worth its money. A great buy. I recommend definitely to people anywhere between 8 and 100 if they enjoy that kind of music. It even has some live performing artists such as 'The Arctic Monkeys' on tour... Read review

...this should be called: Female Of The Species - Various Female Artists. Way back in 98 when Phil Earle, head honcho of law and auder looked back at his catalog of releases he realised that none of them featured any women so he set off to put that right and hunted the rare and hard to find artists on this compilation. The result : a double cd of pure electronca made by women .encompassing an incredible scope of styles rarely found on a compilation like this. Released in 1999, this was a bit of a visionnary move by Phil Earle as since then, some of the artists featured here such as Bit Tonic, Kaffe Matthews, Laura B, and Apache 61 have stepped onto the world stage with their widly respected uncompromising and unique talent.
