Advantages: Classic electro synth pop-rock Disadvantages: Perhaps a little obscure for some
...Devo, from Akron in Ohio USA, should be up there with Kraftwerk as a huge influence on todays electro-synth-rock acts, and if they're not it's a travesty. They made some outstanding albums between 1978 and 1984 before kind of disappearing, though with the rise of the internet have come back into the public's knowledge banks. Their records are quirky, humorous electronic songs that are underpinned with a wry irony. I love this band. When they first appeared in Britain in 1978 at the Reading Festival, they were jeered at by the thousands of hippies present. Ha who's laughing now.
New Traditionalists was Devo's follow up to the platinum-selling genius that was "Freedom Of Choice" (which contained their most famous tune Whip It) and sees them carry on the basic sound of that album whilst moving into even quirkier, darker...

Advantages: Great vocals, innovative style Disadvantages: Tracks are far too similar
...You may not of heard of them yet and you probably never would have had it not been for this review but The Black Keys are a blues/rock two-piece from Akron, Ohio. This dynamic duo consisting of Dan Auerbach (guitar and vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums) serve up stripped down, raw and heartfelt blues. Along with this they mix in a healthy dose of rock ‘n roll and the result is a blues rock hybrid that sounds like nothing else. Taking a more serious approach than ‘The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’ they try to stay true to the conventional blues. But at the same time they throw in a some of their own ideas and the result is a blues and rock cocktail that brings some fresh ideas to the genre. I had never herd of this band before and then i bought family values 99 (which i have done a oppinion about) i really liked them live so i went out to buy the album. This album i love and listen to every day! songs include; sand, welcome to the fold, captin bligh, its gonna kill me, the best things, take a picture, skinny, i will lead you, canacer, i am not the only one and miss blue. welcome to the fold is on family values tour 99 but the dissapointment to this album is that it does not include " hey man nice shot" which is on family values 99. all together 9/10...
